UK takes its football seriously. It’s one of the most followed games in UK along with cricket. Unlike most dads, I am not a biggie on sports. Now, you can judge me all you want but I am more of talent show buzz. But my son is the polar opposite and loves football. So I have signed him up in his school’s team and decided to buy him some basic gear and equipments like football net and some hurdle cones to help him practice. Good equipments and safety gear are very important for a good game so that the kids can play without fear and you can put a rest to all the worry. If you’re also trying to help your kid practice at home like me, here are a few basic equipments, besides football itself, necessary for your little one’s football practice: 1. Football Nets There is no football game without football nets. You can find them in multiple sizes in different materials. You can also find foldable and portable aluminium nets which are ideal for smaller age groups practicing at home. For practice in ground with coach, bigger sized nets are better. Since my son is just 9 years old, I got a foldable goal that is easy to set up and sturdy enough for his age. 2. Dress While practicing at school, the kids are provided a particular dress to play in. But at home, you don’t really need to buy these dress sets which are usually very expensive. Although any breathable shirt would work, shirts with light material which keeps the player dry are better since there are less chances of rashes and prickles. Shorts should be above the knees so that they don’t hinder any kind of movement. You can also add wristbands to help your player wipe off the sweat. 3. Shin Guards Protection is the top most priority in games like football which include sudden collisions and forceful impacts on any falls. Shin guards, thus make for essentials while playing football since shin area is very pain sensitive and brunt hits can even cause fracture. Cover the shin guard with tight fitted socks so that they’re in place and are not visible. 4. Footwear Football footwear is very different from normal footwear. Also called cleats, football shoes have spikes or studs on the sole which help in better grip so as to avoid any accidental slips on the ground. They give more control to the player over their sudden movements. However, while buying cleats, keep in mind that they should be a perfect fit on the player’s feet. Look for different varieties of studs and find the ones suitable for the type of grounds the player practices on. While there are other equipments like headgear and gloves, the above mentioned are the basic ones needed by every player irrespective of their position and role in the team. Gloves are only required by the goalkeeper and headgear is a relatively new add on for safety while heading a ball. With these equipments, your little one is ready to practice at home and follow a path towards success.
