As we get older, it gets harder and harder to get to sleep and stay that way for as long as we need to. There are a lot of reasons for this, but sleeplessness is a problem that more than 35 percent of Americans struggle with, according to the Center for Disease Control.

How Age Affects Sleep:
Eyes Yellow

As your eyes age, they yellow, which means that you get less blue spectrum light throughout the day. You might think that’s a good thing for going to sleep, but because your brain doesn’t get to be as “active” during the day, it can make you feel not tired when it’s time to go to bed.

Need to Use Bathroom More Often

We’ve all heard the jokes about this, but the older we get, the more often we need to go to the bathroom. It happens. It also disrupts our sleep

More Distractions

Let’s face it - the older you get, the more you have to worry about. You might have teenagers or grandkids coming in and waking you up or keeping you up all night.

More Likely to Have Anxiety, Other Disorders

The older we get, the more aches, pains and issues we tend to have. It’s just a part of aging.

If these are problems you are having, you might want to try CBD products like oils or vapes. It can be taken orally or rubbed into your skin to alleviate your troubles.

How CBD Affects Sleep

CBD is a shortened name for cannabidiol, which is extracted from marijuana’s less fun cousin, hemp. It gives you a mild sedative effect that’s perfect for helping you without giving you a high like marijuana would because it doesn’t have THC in it.

Eases Symptoms of Anxiety

The sedative effect of CBD products can help you to be more able to handle the anxiety that comes with daily life and have a little less to worry about at night.

Eases Pain - Even Chronic

People who use medical marijuana and CBD products have found that they have much less pain when they use CBD regularly than when they don’t.

Decreases Reliance on Prescription Medications

Because you won’t be feeling as much pain or anxiety, it’s likely that you won’t need to use as much of the fast-acting prescription medications that can disrupt your sleep cycle over time. However, this does not mean that you should go off of your regular medicines.

Things to Keep In Mind:

You should talk to your doctor before using these products to make sure that it will not exacerbate existing medical conditions or interact badly with your other medications. Before you decrease any of your other medications, make sure it’s safe to do so.

You should also make sure that if your CBD product has THC in it, your employer allows you to use THC. It will show up on a drug screen and can cause problems, even if you are in a state where it is legal for medical or recreational use.
