Montserrat is located in the center of Catalonia, and it is a popular tourist site in Spain. The location of this site puts it close to three airports, including Barcelona International Airport. The distance from Barcelona Airport to Montserrat is merely 60km. Asides the option of renting a private car, there are not many direct routes from the airport to Montserrat, but here are some you could consider.

  • Taxi: This is the only direct way to get to Montserrat from the airport. It is also the most convenient, especially if you are with a group. You can pre-book a taxi before your arrival, and this comes with an advantage as the driver gets you from the terminal with a sign indicating your name. However, when you get a taxi from the airport, there is no fixed price rate. A taximeter calculates your fare according to the distance you travel. It also takes approximately 35 minutes to get to Montserrat from the airport, if the traffic is minimal and about 40-50 minutes if there's much traffic. It is also important to note that at night, the price rate may increase. You also need to ensure that the taximeter is reading throughout the journey to avoid much haggling.
  • Train: If you're opting for transit by train, then you have to note that there is no direct train. You have to catch the TMB L96 train to the city center- Zona Universitaria and then board a bus. Although the train fare is affordable, you have to purchase 1 or 2 bus tickets to get to Montserrat. Accessibility to the train station is easy as the TMB L96 train picks passengers at Terminal 2 in the airport. So if you land at Terminal 1, you can take a free shuttle to Terminal 2. The journey takes about 2 hours, 50 minutes.

Bus: You won't find a direct bus to Montserrat from the airport. You have to take the bus to Plaça Espanya bus stop, then board the R5 railway line to Montserrat. The trip may take you 2 hours, 30 minutes to get there.
