Customising your work-out kit is essential for building a healthy exercise routine and will help you get the most out of your workouts.
Matt Legge, the leading scientist at ATP Science has some helpful suggestions for pre and post workout must-haves for your gym bag.
Pre-workout essentials
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
“Cardio” exercising is short for cardiovascular system, which is your heart and lungs and blood flow. When exercising first thing in the morning, it’s important to replenish your body before diving into cardio. A quick, hydrating pre-workout option is water and fruit. Matt recommends apples due to their high fibre and natural slow-releasing sugar, which helps to wake you up without leading to a sugar crash later in the day.
Prepping without breaking your fast
For those who prefer working out during a fasting session, Matt recommends AMP-V as a pre-workout boost. This plant-based oil supplement is based on omegas that encourage your body to burn fat rather than carbohydrates during a workout. 2ml on an empty stomach will support your system and provide you with omegas 3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 which are rich in essential fatty acids. These fatty acids provide more energy than sugar or caffeine, while supporting healthy muscle development.
Workout essentials
Microfibre towel
Sweat is your body’s way of trying to cool you down and release excess toxins and micro-fibre towels are a great option to soak up every last drop with their superior absorption ability and drying times. Micro-fibre fabric is finer than a bath towel and holds less bacteria with extra breathability.
Targeted fat-burning treatment
ATP Science have developed a topical cream, Subcut to deliver active ingredients to exactly where you want them. Subcut contains a combination of natural fat mobilising and burning ingredients that you may normally find in a drink or capsule but formulated to be used topically to target the stubborn isolated areas that have been resistant to all of your hard work. You can massage the cream directly in to your problem areas before training and again after showers.
Post-workout essentials
Muscle Recovery
Support the development of muscle growth by increasing your intake of specific collagen peptides after an intense workout. This is a form of protein that will help boost the results of your hard work. The Noway Protein is the only product in Australia with Bodybalance and supports lean muscle tissue by supplying the exact active collagen peptides that were used in the studies. High protein, low fat and carb. It comes in five flavours to choose and Matt recommends having one heaped scoop with water after every workout.
Refuel your body
ATP Science recently launched the Noway Collagen Bars. These bars are high in protein, low carb, low sugar and diary, lactose and gluten free – and taste great. If you’re heading home after the gym, commuting to work or trying to make better snack choices, these are easy to grab!
