Imagine, you are having an unfortunate situation in your home wherein, your ceiling of a room falls down and loads of water starts gravitating through it. What would be the first step to manage this situation? Of course, you’ll rush out of the house to save your lives and then think of calling a repair person to understand what actually went wrong.
Now, just the description of such a disaster can make one understand the expenses they’ll get overburdened with. This is the time when a person in Ireland gets a good home insurance policy to save their day with such disasters. However, what if you go for claiming your insurance coverage and the company clearly declines it giving some or other reason. Yes, sounds scary? This is what happens to 42% of the claimants of Ireland who approach an insurance company. Their claims are rejected for some or other reasons irrespective of the fact that nothing of such isn’t mentioned anywhere on the insurance papers.
The same situation happened with an elderly couple a few months back. They were having a good night’s sleep when they had the worst nightmare of their life. The roof ceiling of their bedroom fell on them injuring both of them. When contacted the home insurance Ireland company to get their claim for the corresponding damage, their claim was rejected by the company. The reason they gave for rejecting their claim was that the damage caused to the building was by the wear and tear of the building and the couple wasn’t entitled to a penny for the damage.
According to the figures from the financial ombudsman revealed that the number of complaints received about home insurance policies soared 42 percent within a year to 6,723. Amongst these, only one-third basically around 2353 complaints were upheld in favor of the customers.
These numbers are not at all encouraging when it comes to house insurance Ireland and is expected to dip even low by 2023 making the home insurance market worth €6.28 billion. Millions of claims are made each year, however, the companies are finding ways to wriggle out the paying.
A person pays a thumping amount of coverage at the time of taking the insurance, but when the time comes to take advantage of this investment the insurance companies find ways to extricate themselves from paying the amount to people.
Everyone is aware of the unpredicted weather conditions of Ireland, henceforth, to save themselves from the climatic conditions Irish people get some really expensive house insurance in Ireland. However, the irony is that when it’s time to take solace of this house insurance, the companies find ways to wriggle out payment. One such incident was recently reported, wherein again an elderly couple became a victim of a heavy rainy afternoon when a part of their guttering crashed down from the roof. After clearing the mess from the damage, when the couple called the insurer to get the reimbursement of their expenses in the form of the claim. However, the insurer rejected the to provide the cover of fixing their guttering. The company gave an excuse for not paying the couple stating, that the damage caused could not be classified as storm damage as the wind speed in the area wasn’t that devastating. As usual, they referred to the damage caused to the couple’s guttering by wear and tear.
Now, to save themselves from the wrath of the sufferers, the Association of British Insurer(ABI) claims that the acceptance rate of claims has relatively increased recently with €4.3 billion paid out just last year. However, the fact remains that almost one in five claims are rejected amounting to hundreds of people millions of pounds worth losses every day, which was nowhere mentioned in the statement issued by the association.
Seeing this condition, the question still persists in many hearts that how canonical are the insurance policies on paper than in actual?
