A woman's body changes a lot during pregnancy. The breasts and belly are enlarged and the skin becomes very sensitive. That's why you need to change the most important part of the wardrobe during this period - maternity panties. Put comfort as the most important selection criterion. Maternity underwear cannot rub, irritate the skin or restrict movement. This does not mean, of course, that you can't feel beautiful. There are many different models of women's pregnancy lingerie available in stores. You will certainly find something for yourself. In the meantime, however, find out which items of clothing close to your skin should pay special attention to and why. The experts of the Institute of Mother and Child will help you, who have prepared for you a list of safe and comfortable items for this future mother's wardrobe.

Underwear for pregnant women the most important elements: properly selected maternity bra comfortable, non-irritating maternity panties, pregnancy tights, nightgowns or pajamas, pregnancy belt.

The most important thing to check when choosing underwear for the future mother is the fabric or knitwear from which it was made. Depending on whether you buy a bra, panties, pajamas, tights or a belt, remember that we put the appearance only in second place. Safety is the most important thing. They will be provided by natural, comfortable, flexible and breathable fabrics and knitted fabrics, thanks to which the expectant mother will gain the comfort she needs.

A properly selected bra for the future mother One of the first signs of pregnancy is enlarged breasts. With the approaching delivery, the breasts become larger. It soon turns out that the existing bras have become too small and a visit to the store is necessary. What do you have to remember when buying a bra for this special time?

The best pregnancy model is the so-called full cup, i.e. a well-built bra, with full cups. It should have a spacious belt of material under the bust, fastened with double-row hooks (important to have the ability to adjust the circumference) and wide straps with adjustable length. Keep in mind the underwire, especially if you wear a large bra size. They should ideally surround the entire breast. If they even oppress you a little, hurt or stick out, try on a different model or size. The breasts of many pregnant women also become very sensitive. If you belong to them, test a seamless model with thermally shaped cups. Under no circumstances should you buy a bra without trying it on. It may turn out that despite compliance with your measurements, it will not lie well.

Comfortable, non-irritating panties for a pregnant woman The main thing is that they are sewn from a delicate fabric, not irritating the skin, it will help reduce the risk of infection. Natural, breathable materials such as cotton or bamboo will be great. Depending on the season of the year, you can choose: on cooler days high-rise panties, covering the belly, and for the summer short panties, ending under the belly. It is important that the panties adhere perfectly to the body, but do not compress. Each of the women may, however, have their own preferences, you do not necessarily have to choose high products covering the belly. If you feel more comfortable in your panties under your stomach, nothing stands in the way. It is enough that they are sufficiently flexible, they will not curl or slide - it is very important for your comfort during pregnancy.

A model with a delicate sewn-in strap that will support the growing belly of the future mother will also work great. The risk of infection of the genital tract, in addition to unsuitable material from which the panties are made, may also increase the cut of the panties; thongs often irritate intimate areas. In addition, they can cause discomfort if you suffer from hemorrhoids, not uncommon during this period. In addition, the amount of secretion in the vagina increases physiologically during pregnancy, which makes thongs simply unpractical, it is difficult to buy the right absorbency pad for them. However, if you feel comfortable and sexy in thongs, there are no medical contraindications to wearing them, and special models with front cut in such a way that it does not compress the belly are available in stores.

Underwear and pregnancy tights for the future mother

Future moms can easily find special pregnancy tights in stores. Properly modeled in front, they increase with increasing belly. Due to the fact that they are made of soft cotton with the addition of elastic fiber, they do not cause harmful and uncomfortable pressure, while "breathing", they prevent chafing. Additional reinforcement supports the abdomen, thereby relieving the spinal muscles.

Manufacturers also offer tights with cooling and compression properties, improving circulation; they should be worn if you have varicose veins, they also help with leg swelling.

What about knee socks and stockings? You should not wear knee-high socks and hold-ups during pregnancy. Tight welts, which are finished, cause discomfort, and above all impede blood circulation. Tights are definitely better during this period.

Nightgowns and pajamas Like panties, nightwear should be sewn from light and natural fabrics, breathable, pleasant to the touch, and above all non-irritating to the skin. Cotton works great (preferably organic, recommended for women with sensitive skin, prone to allergies). Instead of tight, tight-fitting styles, it is better to choose wider, more comfortable and non-binding movements.

Pregnancy belt Very useful when a woman has a very large belly or suffers from backache. It will relieve the back, as well as the tendons and pelvis. Unfortunately, during prolonged wearing, the belt can cause circulation problems and by weakening the function of structural muscles constantly. That's why you can't wear it too long, and you can't put on the belt for the night. It's best to get a belt after consulting your gynecologist who will decide if there are any contraindications for wearing it.

When choosing a pregnancy belt, you need to pay attention to the fabric - it should be elastic enough to easily fit to the growing belly and not compress it. It must also be air permeable so that the skin can breathe. It is worth choosing a seamless belt that will not irritate sensitive skin.

There are also special orthopedic belts, recommended e.g. in the case of twin pregnancy, equipped with stiffeners and lateral support belts. They can be adjusted because they have a Velcro fastener for adjusting the circumference.

If you have doubts about which belt you should choose, don't be afraid to ask questions. During your next visit to the gynecologist, ask him if there are any contraindications and what model he advises.
