January 12th is the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, a truly bright person who has knowledge of the Western world along with Hinduism. He was a great disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa and a major force in the revival of Hinduism in India. He pushed for national integration in colonial India, and his famous speech left in 1893 in Chicago. In honour of his many contributions to the country, the Government of India declared his birthday as National Youth Day in 1984 and celebrated it today. Today, the youth of the country are expected to move towards the values, principles and beliefs of the great monk. As Sarkar put it in 1984, "Swamiji's philosophy and ideals inspire him and Indian Youth Day." The main aim is to promote rational thinking among the youth who are considered the future of the country. This has led the youth to rise to the occasion, fight for what is right and channel their inner energy like Swami Vivekananda. There are many ceremonies in schools and colleges, where the young mind is. Today, speech, music, singing and essay writing competitions and yoga sessions are held. Students are encouraged to tap into their spirituality.
