Here is the thing, you probably don't know me. However, if you are interested in making money by being an airbrush tattooist...then this is going to be the most exciting you’ll ever read!
Here is what this is all about:
If you are like most people, and me for that matter, you got an airbrush tattoo or saw an airbrush tattoo artist in action at a fair and was blown away by the level of customers it receives...... and just as incredible was the prices everyone was paying for an incredibly simple airbrush tattoo...
Around 7 in the morning, all the vendors were slowly unpacking all their stuff, figuring out what went where and trying to make it look as attractive as possible.
The show started at 9:00. They spent the next 2 hours painstakingly setting up each individual product. 25 minutes before 9:00, a young girl got there, and with the help of her sister had her entire booth unpacked and setup with a few minutes to spare, in which she talked with her neighboring booth. She chatted for a few minutes but was quickly interrupted as her first customer of the day was waiting......About 4 Minutes after the Show Had Started! The guy who she had been talking to patiently waited for her to finish applying the tattoo so they could continue their conversation...Little did he realize that they wouldn't talk again until the show ended. After the first customer, there was a second, and soon there were more excited customers then there were paint covered hands to apply them……. Buying Cars Copenhagen
Every customer, waiting with money in hand, picked out the tattoo and colors they wanted. They paid and quickly left the booth to show it off to their friends... who were either still in line or had just gotten one themselves. With just a few pieces of equipment this young girl had out performed everyone else at the show. I would imagine that no one except for the food booths even came close.
She Was Literally in a League of Her Own
Anyone could see that even on a "bad" day she must take in a hefty sum. It was like bees to honey. People couldn't get enough of them. The real kicker was this wasn't some affluent part of town. These were regular people. Average people with average paychecks at the end of each week.
But, unlike everyone else, I had a very unique view of her business...You see, my parents run a Kettle Corn booth. Just like all vendors, they setup at shows and take advantage of the unusually high rate of people all in one spot. And by the way, no matter what booth you run, you have two goals in mind:
• Be where the traffic is... and...
• Make sure that traffic never lets you take a break!
The thing is that they both obviously go hand in hand. You're not going to go home with a big smile if there are only 50 people total at the event... no matter what you are selling. But it also doesn't matter if there are 50,000 attendees, if you are selling pinecones with Sharpie smile faces on them... well, you just aren't going to be happy period. You Need Something That Sells Itself! And the thing most people don't get when you take advantage of these events is that you have only a limited amount of time to make money. You've got hours or a few days - tops. It’s like the old saying "you got to make hay while the sun shines". You must be certain that what you are offering will make people go crazy. You need something that people don't even hesitate to get. It needs to be something that they can’t leave without.
And let me ask you this: Why do you think these people really go out to fairs, festivals or any type of event? Is it to buy knick knacks? A little. Is it to socialize? Yeah, sure. But what is the main reason they go? It is to have fun. They want to have a good time. When you actually setup and you get to talk to people, and I mean a lot of people, you quickly will realize that these weekend outings are like mini vacations to them. And That Makes Total Sense People work damn hard to put food on the table and a roof over their family’s heads. And any chance that they can get where they can have a great time for just a few bucks, well, they are going to take it. And the reason that benefits you is because they have money to spend, and they want to have fun. And let me tell you, nothing even comes close to the fun that you get from getting an airbrush tattoo! The great thing about number 2 though, is this: You are reading right now about one of those elite booths. The booth that by the time the show has started, ends up looking like a sea of people. The ones that practically steals the show. The only booth that you will see kids literally drag their parents to. The booth that will cause you to be known as the airbrush tattoo gal or guy! But back to the tattoo artist, my parents were setup right across from her. We had front row seats to what would be the catalyst to how I would end up make my living - and eventually teaching people how to do the same. As you can imagine, my eyes were glued to her and her setup all day. I just saw someone spend less than 30 minutes setting up a money making machine!
Saw her make a killing with a couple airbrushes and a few stencils. Saw here turn a few ounces of red and black paint into green money. It was seeing that girl literally stuff bill after bill into her pockets that gave me the drive to setup my own booth. I don't think there is anyone alive that could witness such a thing and not want to do the same. But here is Why I Knew Anyone Could Airbrush a Tattoo: I had used an airbrush before, and I had used it with stencils. Anyone who hasn't would look at her as if she was some magnificent artist, someone with an art degree or someone who was born with artistic abilities that no one else could hope to attain.
They are wrong. And the reason is that the stencils do 90% of the work for you. Really all you need to do as an airbrush tattoo artist is spray the paint - which is about as hard as holding a pencil for the first time...
• The stencil create the crisp and clean outlines
• The stencil turns a little bit of paint into a beautiful design
• The stencil draws all the lines automatically
That doesn't mean any artistic abilities you might have won’t come into play. If you are an artist, then you will be great as an airbrush tattoo artist. You will already know about colors, depth, shading, etc. that will get you off to a good start quicker... but...You Can Have No Art Experience and Still Look like a Total Pro! I myself didn't have any artistic abilities whatsoever. I had dabbled in art before, but I didn't know anything concrete that I could apply to my tattoos. But it wasn't too long before I had figured out almost everything you could do to make a tattoo look better, more attractive or edgy. Both my parents were on board and I knew that they would be able to help me with getting shows, as they had been booking them for over 15 years now. I also knew that my mom could sniff out a dud from a mile away, all which I have absorbed. And even though sometimes my dad and friends played the devil’s advocate and brought up all the hurdles that I might face, I knew they believed in me, and were only doing it so that I could be prepared.
It was clear though, that there was way too much demand for just one person in my area - too much demand for 3 or 4 even - so I immediately began researching how I could get started. Obviously no one could ask her for help ... insanely high demand or not, there was no way she was going to lay it all out!
