In a plethora of environments hackers look for those users inside of organizations that have easy passwords. It becomes much easier to penetrate a system when there is a weak password that is being used by employees on the network. This is why there is often a push from network administrators for users to create strong passwords.

Password Requirements

The administrator that creates strong network password requirements is also working towards increasing network security inside of an organization. When the requirements are not enforced it becomes easy for employees to get lazy in their password setup.

Length

In most work environments there is going to be a minimum requirement for the characters. There will also be a need for special characters and numbers. Some administrators will even force users to have an upper or lower case letter to add a higher level of complexity to the password.

If the password is designed for a certain length requirement it is going to challenge those users that are setting up their password. They know that they will have to get creative and think of something outside the norm.

Changing The Password Regularly

There is also going to be an improved security measure when these complex network passwords are changed on a regular basis. People that are setting up passwords are not going to be allowed to have the same password when it is time to change the password. They are going to have to come up with something new. This is going to further increase the security of the network. It is going to make it harder for hackers to guess what the passwords are.

Resist Common Password Combinations

It is easy for an employee to consider a password option that may have their first or last name and their birthday. It is true that this password may meet the length and special character requirements, but it is still an easy password combination to guess. That means that employees should consider trying something else. They need to look at something that is not so common.

It is actually a better idea to use a password that is not even a word. There should not be any consecutive numbers used either when it comes to password combinations. All of this allows people to create stronger login information that will not be guessed so easily by hackers.

Making A Case For Better Security

A large number of people that are using passwords to log on to any device these days are starting to use multi-factor authentication. This is a much stronger password combination because it may require two devices. This means that there may be a password on a smartphone as well as a password or pin to log on on a desktop or tablet. This ability to have two strong passwords in place definitely increases the security of the network. It makes it almost impossible for hackers to penetrate systems when two different devices are required for users to log into the network.
