YouTube TV is Google's live TV streaming service, available throughout the U.S. since March 27, 2019. It is a serious rival for platforms like Sling TV , Hulu Plus Live TV and DirecTV Now . It differs from these services because it does not come from a company with a history in the television business, and the definition of "service" fits better than any other. But do you know everything about YouTube TV? What is it and what does it offer? How is it different from other live TV streaming services? We will tell you everything below.

What is YouTube TV?

YouTube TV launched in 2017, and was initially available only in limited areas. After a major expansion in January 2019, Google has said that the service now covers more than 98 percent of households in the United States, so unless you live in the middle of nowhere, it is highly likely that be available to you. Many of the features you'll find on other streaming services are here too, but the service has a somewhat limited channel menu compared to some competitors. Unlike Hulu with Live TV - which combines a live TV streaming service with your standard Hulu experience - YouTube TV is a standalone product. You can't just go to the YouTube website and start watching it, as you'll need to install YouTube and YouTube TV apps separately on mobile and streaming devices.

Compatible Devices

Compared to other streaming services - like Sling TV , which seems to be available on just about everything - YouTube TV is somewhat limited in terms of device compatibility. You'll find it on Android TV and Chromecast devices, of course, as well as the fourth generation of Apple TV and Apple TV 4K. All Roku TVs and the vast majority of Roku streaming media players, including the new Roku Premiere +, are also supported. Samsung and LG Smart TVs from 2016 onwards are supported, as well as all Vizio SmartCast TVs and all Xbox One models. You can also watch it online through the YouTube TV website, using Chrome or Firefox. And what common devices are not compatible with YouTube TV? Due to the ongoing dispute between Google and Amazon, you will not be able to watch YouTube TV on Amazon Fire TV devices, such as the Fire TV Cube or Fire TV Stick 4K. Because Sony offers its own live TV with PlayStation Vue, you won't be able to use YouTube TV (or any other non-Sony live TV service) on PlayStation 4 consoles either. It doesn't look like this will change in the near future.

Characteristics

One of the most interesting features of YouTube TV is its cloud DVR. Any live TV streaming service worth its salt has one these days, but on YouTube it's much less restrictive than DVRs used by other services. While others limit the number of hours of content you can store, or automatically delete recordings after one month, YouTube TV allows you to save them for up to nine months. An initial problem with the YouTube TV DVR is that it used to prefer on-demand versions of shows instead of the ones you recorded. That wouldn't be a big deal, except you can't skip the commercials in those on-demand versions. Fortunately, in October 2018, the service announced that it was opening full DVR control on many of the networks available on the service. Still some will encounter this problem, but it is something that has been improving, clearly. YouTube TV allows you to have up to six members of your family sharing the service, with three being able to watch it at the same time. Unlike many other services, YouTube does not offer any updates, so this will be the maximum number of people who will be able to view the service at once, although three individual streams should be more than enough for most families.     In large part, YouTube TV has an offer comparable to that of other streaming services. Where it differs is in its price, due to its simplicity. YouTube TV costs $ 50 a month. You can pay more for a few additional optional channels, but you won't find much different packages than those offered by Sling TV, DirecTV Now or PlayStation Vue. We give you below a list of the channels available on the service in July 2019. In addition to these, PBS has announced that its main PBS and PBS Kids channel will join YouTube TV this 2019, with its entire list of shows available under demand as well as live streaming. As with any streaming service, the local channels available will depend on the offers YouTube TV has secured in your area. Various regional sports networks are also available depending on your location. For more information, see the YouTube TV Promo Code 2020 to avail more discounts .

Visualization experience

When it comes to viewing and comparing it to other streaming services on a phone, the experience is so good that it almost seems to be designed specifically for smartphone displays . As you scroll through the live channels, you will have a live preview of what that channel is currently broadcasting, making it very easy to find something to watch. This also happens when you browse the YouTube TV website, although it doesn't seem to be that fast. While browsing the channels on an Apple TV, it's simple enough to see what was going on, but here the previews were still images, and not the live videos that appeared on the web and mobile versions. No matter what device you are using, when you open the application you go to a "Start" screen, which shows you the recommendations of the video on demand and what is currently being transmitted. Head over to the "Library" section to view your DVR recordings and the video on demand you've saved for later. If you're just looking for something to watch, head over to the "Live" section, where you'll see a guide-style interface that will show you what's going on right now. When we had a chance to try it out, the video was clear and sharp, although sometimes the image quality declined and gradually increased. We did not find any buffers or freezes in our tests, nor did we have any other audio or visual issues.
