We are now living in a world that has been dominated by a microorganism, a virus called COVID-19 that has changed the world as we know it. And the worst part is that we still do not have a definite treatment or medication for it.

Even though the US FDA and WHO are continuously experimenting and researching to come up with the possible treatment for the disease caused by the coronavirus, they are yet to sanction a drug as the definite treatment for the disease.

Meanwhile, the hospitals and care centers around the world are managing to treat the COVID-19 patients mostly by controlling the infection and keeping them in the constant care and/or on ventilators, as and when required. Many hospitals and healthcare services are also experimenting with a range of medications, mostly the ones that are used in the treatment of common fever, including Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ)/Plaquenil and chloroquine. However, the data related to the effects or results of these treatments are too limited or inconclusive to say anything for sure.

COVID-19 Drugs, Experiments & Expected Results

As of now, most of the hospitals and healthcare centers around the world are extensively using the following three medicines to treat or at least minimize the effects of the coronavirus:

Plaquenil

Chloroquine

Remdesivir

Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine)

Plaquenil or hydroxychloroquine is a medication being used to treat malaria for decades. It’s highly effective in the treatment of malaria, however, the results in the case of COVID-19 disease are not definite.

Chloroquine

Chloroquine is also an anti-malaria drug that is effective in the treatment of malaria patients. Some hospitals around the US and the world are giving this medication to the COVID-19 infected patients in order to slow down the spread.

Remdesivir

Remdesivir is an antiviral medication used for treating patients affected by common viral. It’s one of the leading medications that are being tested as a possible treatment for the coronavirus.

There are multiple other medications and chemicals that are currently being experimented for COVID-19 treatment. These include:

Plaquenil – Mid- to late April 2020

Remdesivir – Earliest data expected in April 2020

Chloroquine – Mid to late April 2020

Actemra and Kevzara – Summer 2020

Artificial antibodies - Fall 2020

Vaccines – Not before Spring 2021

Favipiravir – Mid to late April 2020

Medical labs and research centres around the world are extensively testing these and other medications in order to find the best or closest medication for COVID-19. However, none of these medicines/drugs has shown any definite results so far. It may be possible that none of these make it to the final list.

The experiments and clinical trials conducted up until now show that Plaquenil or HCQ is somewhat beneficial in slowing down the effects of COVID-19 in already affected patients. Some countries, including China, that used chloroquine to treat the corona patients saw notable benefits in controlling the effects. Another study confirmed that Plaquenil is in fact helpful in lowering down the effects of COVID-19 and healing the patients from the virus.

Remdesivir was reportedly tested for the treatment of Ebola virus, but failed. And now, the same drug is being tried for treating the COVID-19 disease. The results are so far inconclusive.

At MedicineFather, you can now buy all the latest and ongoing drugs, including prescription medicines for most of the common diseases like fever and flu. We are also trying our best to make a COVID-19 medication available on the website as soon as possible. Stay tuned!
