What is UX design exactly? UX design is all about designing products that are useful and user friendly. The primary objective of UX design is to enhance the experience of users while interacting with your product. So, to make this possible, we must clearly understand the needs of the customers and focus on why we are creating this product and what we are trying to solve—the why part is crucial as it is the key to define the problem. Therefore, conducting research is the key to answer the whys and needs of the target audience.

User Research

User Research is an inevitable step in the UX design process. Designing a product based on our assumptions and experience are likely to fail, and it’ll be hard to understand what the product lacks and where it needs improvement. Conducting user research exposes and identifies the needs of users, and it’ll be much easier to spot the inconvenience and make it better. User research can be conducted in a variety of forms such as interviews, surveys etc.

Why is user research an unavoidable step in the UX design process? The chief goal of a UX designer is to enhance the experience of the users while interacting with your product. Therefore, listening to their needs and observing their behaviour can help you design a convenient and user-friendly product.

Personas

From the information obtained from the research, we can recognize the potential users of the product and produce personas. Personas are the archetypical representation of the product users that narrate the needs, goals and motivation of the user. The motive of the personas is to create a representation of potential users of the product, to meet the needs and expectations of the target audience.

Scenario mapping and user journey

Scenario mapping is all about the steps the users will go through while interacting with your product to achieve a particular goal. For example, how users use the website to place an order. Scenario mapping can take a variety of forms such as notes, sketch or even a video. Scenario mapping gives us an idea of what kind of experience should be ensured for the users.

A user journey is a step by step visual representation of users to reach a specific goal. It is a handy tool when it comes to an understanding the website in the perspective of the target audience. Hence it can be used to understand the needs and where the customers come across inconveniences.

Information Architecture (IA)

Information architecture refers to the structural design for a website, app, or other product that let users acknowledge where they are, where the information they want is in association with the other items. Information architecture aims to label, structure and organize the content, to make it easier for the users to complete their tasks.

Interaction design

Interaction design is the design linking users and the product, and it identifies how users will interact with your product. Interaction design aims to produce products that allow users to complete their tasks under optimum conditions.

Wireframes

The purpose of wireframes is to get a hold of where elements such as logo, search field, content, share buttons etc. will be placed on the screen. It does not involve colour, images and styling. Space allocation, content prioritization and intended behaviours are the objectives of wireframes.

Prototype

Building a prototype for your design means creating a preliminary version to test functionality and correct the errors. The significant advantage is that it enables real-time experience, and it saves both money and time. With the aid of a prototype, you can get a sense of how the design will work and improve a lot.

User testing

User testing is an integral phase of this process; through this test, you can enhance your product and get rid of most of the problems. Furthermore, user testing is affordable, plus the mission is accomplished within less time.

Additionally, UX design plays a crucial role in the evolution and the success of the software. As a UX designer, your chief goal is to enhance the user experience, UX designers convert the resources and information gathered from users to a user friendly and convenient product.
