After years of updates, Microsoft has finally made it right. After using Microsoft’s new Edge browser for over a week, we found that it acts similarly to the way Chrome browser does. Both Microsoft Edge and Chrome are built on a similar Chromium platform. However, you may see that the new Microsoft Edge browser has a more significant number of privacy features compared to Google’s Chrome. It has some extra set of features that makes it stand apart from Google Chrome. It also has similar features like the ones that are present in the Chrome browser, like the browser extensions. The new Microsoft Edge browser is undoubtedly worth trying, and you can see more effective features in it in the future updates.
When you try the new upgraded version of Microsoft Edge, you will hardly be able to figure out any differences between Chrome and Edge. The only thing you will be able to figure out is the Bing logo on the left-hand side of the screen in the Microsoft Edge browser. You can, however, change the default browser “Bing” to “Chrome” if required. The new upgraded version of Microsoft Edge feels similar to Chrome, and you will hardly feel any pain in switching from Chrome browser to Edge as both the browsers are built on the same Chromium platform. The bookmarks toolbar of the Microsoft Edge looks similar to the one on the Chrome browser, and it supports Chrome extensions too. This upgraded version of the Microsoft Edge has a wide variety of options than its previous version.
Almost all the extensions that you have used on the Chrome browser will undoubtedly work on Microsoft’s new Edge browser too. You can search for the extensions on the Edge browser from either Microsoft Edge’s own extension library or from the Chrome Web Store.
The best thing about Microsoft Edge is its RAM usage. It uses a lesser memory for opening the number of tabs. Suppose if Chrome is using around 2 GB of RAM for loading around 19 pages on its browser, then Microsoft Edge only uses approximately 1.6 GB of RAM for opening the same number of pages.
The privacy settings of the Microsoft Edge are a lot similar to the Chrome Browser; however, it does have a bit more privacy options compared to Google Chrome. It has three privacy modes in which your browser keeps: “Basic”, “Advanced” and “Strict”. The Strict option of the privacy settings blocks a vast number of trackers on the sites significantly. It has an automatic ad blocker too, which is pretty impressive. Also, it does have a better settings interface compared to the Chrome browser.
Should You Give It A Try?
Definitely, you should. Edge has many similarities to the Chrome browser. Not only is it similar to Chrome, but it also has more privacy settings. It is worth trying as it has more robust privacy settings and also it consumes less RAM than Chrome browser. However, Microsoft Edge does not have a variety of linked services that Google has, and it will be a big challenge for Microsoft to overcome the extensive facilities of Google’s ecosystem. But Microsoft has started the journey, and the very first thing it has done is that, along with a Windows platform, the Microsoft Edge can be accessed on the Android as well as on an iOS device too.
