Today we use a lot of things in our daily life that runs with batteries like from a wrist watch to laptops, TV, other appliances and cars. All these things belong to different categories and so have different types of batteries. Once the life of the battery is end, it becomes useless to keep them and it is good to throw them away in order to save the space. However, throwing them randomly can be harmful if it’s a rechargeable battery.

As discussed earlier, there are different types of batteries. The regular alkaline, manganese, and carbon-zinc batteries are one of the hazardous materials but they can be thrown away with the regular waste. On the other hand the rechargeable batteries cannot be thrown away as it is ordinarily but they requires the special care and are meant to be disposed properly, with proper techniques. The universal waste batteries that we use in torch lights, remote cars, exit signs, security systems, and alarms, etc. are also rechargeable. All such batteries require special disposal treatment so that the harmful metals in the batteries don’t escape into the environment.

What to do with the old batteries?

Alkaline and Lithium batteries are being used in our daily life. On a rough average if we count 8-10 number of batteries per person a year that becomes a huge number when we count them on average globally. It seems like we are making the excess of harmful waste which is though useful but is directly harming our world.

Batteries contain horrible toxic and flammable ingredients that I believe never should be wasted or put in landfill bins randomly. When they are thrown and wasted like that the metals like Nickel, Mercury, Cadmium, and Lead comes out of the batteries and go into the soil then reaching the underground water cause damages to our health directly and indirectly.

There are a few tips for disposing the batteries. Like:

  • Drop off them at a nearby local facility.
  • Recycle them.
  • Give them away if they are rechargeable.
  • Small batteries those used in watches and other small electronics should be disposed of at a designated point that is meant for hazardous materials.
  • The AA, AAA, 9V, D and C batteries can be discard along with the regular trash.
  • The best practice to throw away the Lithium batteries is to tape their ends in order to prevent the risk of short circuiting and fire.
  • The rechargeable batteries should be taken to the places specifically made for their keeping and disposals.
  • The automobile batteries contains sulfuric acid and lead. Most of the service station dispose of the old batteries for a cost. However, there are a number of junk removal company in Orlando that also offer battery disposal services.

What is the right act?

Though the advancement in innovation and technology is making our lives easy but if we see on the other side of the reality, we are actually making the world a hard place to live in. we all need to think on this matter carefully before we make this world an impossible place to live a happy life for our upcoming generations. What we need to do it to take the step from now. Like:

  • We should reduce the use of gadgets that requires batteries to operate.
  • Instead of throwing them randomly, we should better keep them aside and call on junk removal in Orlando who have professionals that will carry away the battery junk, safely.
  • Should use the rechargeable batteries so less battery waste is produced.
