The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) allows foreign skilled workers who have been nominated by an Australian state or territory – based on their ability to fill skills shortages in the local labor market – to permanently live and work in Australia. New South Wales (NSW), specifically its capital city of Sydney, is a major immigration hub. Many foreign nationals immigrate to this state – with their families – by applying for the 190 Visa NSW.

Eligibility Requirements

• Be under 45 years of age at the time of being invited to apply for nomination.
• Score at least 65 points based on the selection criteria of the federal immigration authority – the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
• Have a positive skill assessment in an occupation listed on the NSW 190 Skilled Occupation List. As of October 2020, NSW is only welcoming applications for NSW state sponsorship 491 and 190 from skilled workers who are engaged in specific IT, health and engineering occupations, and are currently living in the state.
• Have at least competent English language skills.
• Commit to living and working in NSW for at least the first two years after arrival.
• Meet DHA’s health and character requirements.

Australia PR Process for NSW State Nomination under Subclass 190

Step 1: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) in Skillselect – DHA’s online application selection system – mentioning an interest in moving to NSW.
Step 2: The NSW state government ranks EOIs based on the candidate’s point score, English language skills and work experience. Highest-ranking candidates receive invitations to apply for nomination from the NSW state government.
Step 3: Within 14 days of receiving the invitation, the candidate must submit a complete application and supporting documents to NSW. If approved, NSW will issue a state nomination.
Step 4: Once nominated, 5 points will be added to the candidate’s point score, and they will be invited to apply for the Subclass 190 visa to DHA. If this application is approved, the DHA will grant permanent residence.

Due to its diverse immigrant communities, rewarding job opportunities, and high standard of living, NSW receives a significant number of visa applications from hopeful immigrants every year.
