Still, the later projects in the franchise deviated from the original video games. Director Johannes Roberts has taken over the directional responsibilities of the franchise. Roberts is looking to honor the legacy of the video games in 1998 Raccoon City. Johannes Robert is a British film writer, producer, and director known for thriller and horror movies. Roberts is famous for his underwater thriller film 47 Meters Down. The director started his career at the age of 22 in 2000. He self-funded his film Sanitarium for £5,000; it was a worldwide release. After his movie release, Robert directed a low budget horror film, Forest of the Damned, for DVD. Later the British director wrote and directed Other Side of the Door starring Jeremy Sisto, Javier Botet, Sarah Wayne Callies, and Sofia Rosinsky. The movie was entirely filmed in Mumbai and collected a gross of $14 million. He also directed the sequel of the horror movie The Strangers, titled, The Strangers: Prey at Night. The reboot of Resident Evil was announced in 2017 with EP James Wan. However, in 2018, Wan exited from the project, and soon after, the writer Greg Russo also left the reboot.
