If you have installed an Android TV and want to control it through your phone, you are in the right place. Controlling a TV wirelessly using a mobile phone is fun. If the TV’s remote is damaged or stops working, you can eliminate this lousy time by turning your mobile device into a remote control. Using the TV with a smartphone is more convenient than regular remote-control devices.
Further, controlling Android TV through smartphones offers many benefits. For instance, if you have to type something on the TV, you can’t type quickly using the remote control. Here a smartphone will make typing more effortless than a regular remote. Using a smartphone as a TV remote helps more when your favorite show is live, and you lose the regular remote device.
How does a smartphone control an Android TV?
Android TV manufacturers provide separate mobile applications for consumers to use the TV with ease. You can also use the app of your Android TV on your smartphone. Generally, you use your smartphone for specific activities like making phone calls, using the internet, playing games, etc. Still, you can control your home television through your phone by installing the TV’s remote-control app.
Whether you use an Android or iOS device, the manufacturer provides the app for both platforms. The apps are free to use and support TVs with Android OS, set-top boxes, streaming sticks, and more.
Ways to use the Android TV remote control app
To use the app, open your TV and mobile phone.
Then connect both of them to the same Wi-Fi network.
Find the TV’s app on your phone and launch it.
Choose and click on your TV name on the phone.
Now you will see a PIN on the TV screen.
Type the PIN in the app and click on Pair.
After connecting both the devices successfully, you can now control the TV through your smartphone. A D-pad interface will appear on your phone to control the TV. You get arrows in four directions, including up, down, left, and right on the D-pad interface that allows you to navigate the TV screen. If you don’t want to use the D-pad, you can use the Touchpad control system. To get touchpad access, hit the hamburger menu on your smartphone in the upper area on the left side. To type on the TV’s screen, enable the keyboard by clicking on the keyboard icon on your mobile screen’s upper right corner.

If your Android TV and mobile app don’t pair using the above methods, use the below process to troubleshoot it.
