In this article, we have discussed the ways using which you can hide control panel settings on the system in order to stop other individuals from modifying your settings. Use of Group Policy to Hide Control Panel settings The users can hide the Control Panel settings using the Group Policy: First, launch the Run command using your keyboard’s Windows key and R. Now type gpedit.msc and press OK. Doing this will launch your device’s Local Group Policy Editor. Further, browse your path: User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Control Panel Double-tap on the policy “Hide specified Control Panel items.” Click on “Enabled.” Now tap the “Show” button. Further, input the names of those items that you don’t want to be shown anymore, by the Control Panel. Now press OK to continue and further click on Apply and then again on OK. That’s it. Now you can close the Local Group Policy and re-launch the Control Panel. You will only notice the list of specified items. Use of Registry to Hide Control Panel settings The users can hide the Control Panel settings using the Registry: Launch the Run command prompt with the help of the keyboard shortcut Windows key and R. Type regedit and press OK for opening the Registry. Visit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer Further, right-click on the right side, to choose New, and then press DWORD. Input the name DisallowCPL to the key and then press Enter. Double-tap on the DWORD, you have created and further, set the value from zero to one. Now, right-click on the folder “Explorer. Further, tap on New and then on Key. Give DisallowCPL as a name to the key and then press the Enter button. Further, right-click on the right side, click on New and further on String Value. Once you have given a name to the key alongside the desired settings that need to be hidden, press Enter. Double-tap on the recently formed string. Input the name of the item of your Control Panel that needs to be hidden, and further press OK. So, these were the steps with which you can hide the control panel settings on your PC to stop others from changing your settings.
