One of the most fundamental functions of McAfee is On-Access Scanning. This protection method is exhibited by McAfee in order to safeguard your system from threats. Whenever a user installs a new software or inserts a USB or any other external drive on his system, the McAfee antivirus setup performs a complete scan on the program/external drive and prevents the suspicious files from entering the system. The authorization is given only when the scanning procedure ensures that there’s no threat underlying behind the program or external drive that may otherwise be harmful to your device. On-Access Scanning ensures there’s no malware interference within the files entering the system. In case any threat is found behind a specific file, or a program tries to modify the configurations of your system, you will be sent an immediate warning about it. On-Access Scanning is beneficial for restricting the suspicious file from getting installed alongside the new software you are installing on your device. Though the feature has several advantages, it also carries a drawback as it blocks the network connection if any suspicious file is found during the installation process. So, if you want to disable this scanning feature for a specific duration, you may follow the instructions listed below: Initiate the process by navigating the McAfee VirusScan icon on your system. You will probably find it on the system tray of your device. Once located, you need to right-click on the McAfee Virus Scan icon. Upon right-clicking, the option “Disable On-Access Scan” will appear, which you need to tap in order to disable your McAfee setup’s On-Access Scanning. In case you don’t see any such option, head over to the “Activating On-Access Scanning” section to disable the On-Access Scanning. How to Activate On-Access Scanning? After disabling the feature, in case you want to re-activate it, you can follow the steps mentioned below to activate the On-Access Scanning feature on your system: Initiate the process by clicking on the “Start” menu. Further, tap on the option “All Programs” appearing in the list. An entire list of all the installed apps and programs will appear on your screen. You need to navigate the “McAfee” icon in the list. Once located, tap on it. Further, choose the option “VirusScan Console.” Then you need to double-click on the “Access Protection” option. Upon clicking, the option “Prevent McAfee Services from being stopped” will appear on your device’s screen with a check box “Next.” You need to checkmark the box and proceed further to the steps listed further. Now, you need to add the option “Disable On-Access Scanning” on the VirusScan list of your McAfee setup. Further, click on the option “Apply” to proceed further. Finally, click on “File” and then on “Exit” in order to take an exit from the McAfee VirusScan Console. That’s all you need to do to disable McAfee’s On-Access Scanning on your system. We recommend you disable the feature only when there’s an urgency of doing so; otherwise, keep it enabled in order to prevent the malware and other digital threats from entering your system.
