Little misalignment can be accommodated in Flexible couplings but as an excuse, it should not be used for poor alignment or no maintenance. Some transmitting power method is needed between the two machines rotating equipment using separate driving and driven machines. They can also provide damping of vibration and tensional changes depending upon the design. To conveyors, drive pumps, compressors, motor-generator sets, fans, crushers, vibrating screens, etc. flexible couplings are often used.
