No matter what your fitness and training goals are in the gym, using a plyometric box is a great way to level up your overall athleticism, burn tons of fat, and develop blinding explosiveness. Here is a breakdown of my favorite plyo exercises. If you are new to plyometrics, it is easy to get caught up in all the hype regarding who is "the best plyometric exercises?" You may even have heard that you need to start doing hundreds of repetitions per day in order to see results. These claims can be true, but only if you choose the best plyometric exercises for you! In order to find the best plyometric exercises for your level of physical fitness, you need to first determine what your goals are. Are you looking to build bulk, lose weight, improve your athletic ability, or are you just looking to strengthen and improve your overall health? There are plyometric programs designed for everyone. They are all designed to target certain muscles or groups of muscles so that you can achieve your goals. Once you know what your actual goals are, it will be easier to choose a plyometric workout that will best meet those goals. Once you know what you want to achieve with your athletic endeavors, you should then determine what plyometric exercises will best suit you. Think about your current fitness level. If you are a beginner and don't yet have a lot of experience, you are probably better off starting with traditional plyometric exercises such as toe raises and deadlifts. On the other hand, if you are an experienced athlete, you probably already have some good plyometric exercises that you are comfortable with. Also, another consideration is what kind of equipment you have at your disposal. Plyo exercises can be done with stairs, a level surface (fields and the rubber on running tracks are optimal for ballistic and ply training), and most gyms have a series of plyometric boxes that you can use to stack at a height you are comfortable with. If you are just starting out, you may want to try something completely new. The best thing to do is to find a workout that you enjoy, then slowly progress to more difficult and complicated variations. Another factor that you must take into consideration when choosing the best plyometric exercises is time. A lot of people mistakenly think that they need to spend a lot of time working on their plyometric workouts in order to see results. What they fail to realize is that you can easily do many of the exercises at home. You may even be surprised to hear that you can use free weights for plyometric workouts as well. All you need are some cheap dumbbells and a bench or a rack of books. Doing these exercises at home saves you a lot of money and provides you with the convenience of working when it's convenient for you. The best plyometric exercises are going to be the ones that allow you to move the new weight as far as possible. In other words, you need to focus on heavy loads. Don't start off by trying to do five reps. You should begin with two to three sets of ten to twelve reps. This way, you'll be able to gradually build up your strength and become stronger throughout your entire workout. Finally, you need to remember that there are no shortcuts to best plyometric exercises. You can't go into the gym and start pressing dumbbells. You need to have the proper form when performing any of these exercises. As long as you're performing them properly, you'll be fine. It's just going to take some time and a bit of trial and error to get good at doing these exercises.
