Resistance bands are basically elastic bands made of latex or synthetic rubber. They are multipurpose and help the body in building inner strength and also helps to tone muscles by burning excessive fat. It is not only adaptable but is also affordable at the same time. These bands are made in a way to offer resistance so that during the workout session, the main muscles and joints are targeted.

Resistance bands are easy to operate and portable too. It is a good start for people who are not used to heavy gym machines and other equipment. Those who are keen to have a home gym machine should also add a resistance band to their list of things. You can work with a resistance band as per your choice. They are cheaper in rate as compared to other gym equipment and easy to carry.

Mostly all resistance bands look alike but they are not the same. They are available in various thicknesses and strengths that define its usage. The color of the resistance band helps in recognizing the difference. The different level resistance bands are mentioned below.

Level of Resistance Bands

The main levels of resistance bands include light, medium, heavy and extra heavy.

Light Resistance Bands

These bands are helpful in lightweight exercise that mainly involves stretching of muscles and movement in joints. They target the shin and shoulder muscles and weigh almost 10 pounds. Light resistance bands come in yellow and red colors.

Medium Resistance Bands

These bands provide a medium-level resistance and are not as flexible as light resistance bands. They provide more tension and are advisable to be used after having a complete experience with light resistance bands. They come in green color. Medium resistance bands are ideal for bicep and tricep muscle extension.

Heavy Resistance Bands

Heavy Resistance bands as the name suggests are very strong. They are difficult to pull and are very tight when stretched. These bands are meant for an intermediate gym goer or for someone very strong. A heavy Resistance band comes in blue and black color. It is helpful during leg, chest and back workouts.

Workouts With Resistance Bands

A full-body resistance band workout is very effective and is a good start for an everyday routine. Anyone can exercise with a resistance band. Some of the exercises are as follows.

1. One arm bicep curl

Stand on the resistance band with both feet at shoulder-width distance apart. Hold the band with one hand with your arm down at your side, palm facing at the ceiling. Slowly stretch the band up and down, switch and repeat.

2. Front Squat

Get into a squat position. Stand on the resistance band with your feet apart, and bring the top of the band up to your shoulder's front. Then bring it back to the starting position, switch and repeat.

3. Glute Bridge

First, loop the resistance band above the knees and lie back on the floor with knees bent at 90°. Lift your toes off the floor, then raise your hips until it forms a straight line contracting your glutes throughout the movement. Apply some pressure on the resistance band in this workout.

4. Lateral Walk

Similar to the glute bridge, this one also involves looping the resistance band above the knees and another around the ankles. Then in a half squat position, take a small step to the side, keeping tension in the bands. Keep doing it in one direction and then switch.

5. Side Lying Hip Reduction

Lie down on your side, with one arm touching the floor with feet at a 90° angle. Then raise the upper leg to pull the knees apart while contracting your glutes, then slowly return to the starting position. Repeat the exercise and then switch.
