You must, first of all, find the modality that suits you the most and then choose a setup that is the height of your practice, after all, depending on the skate park , you will need a softer and wider wheel.

Thinking about giving you a hand, we brought you some tips to guide you, beginner skater, in choosing a cool longboard to catch that session with the guys. Let's go for tips?!

4 longboard modalities to discover and practice today

Longboard

As we said, before assembling your setup, it is crucial that you choose a modality that you like and that encourages you to practice longboard. But every choice requires minimal knowledge of the options, don't you think? So, here we tell you everything about longboard for beginners, starting with the main disciplines of this skateboarding category.

1. Freeride

The freeride is the mode of the skateboard freestyle , which allows you to walk the streets in skateparks, jump obstacles, send some slides and even get a bowl track.

The interesting thing about this modality is that it aims to express the skateboarder's freedom to create and recreate maneuvers , expressing his entire personality. It is certainly the modality of free spirits and adventurers.

2. Freestyle

Freestyle, on the other hand, consists of a modality that allows you to launch tricks that are more creative and fun. Its big difference when compared to freeride is that it allows us to walk on streets and launch gaps, while freestyle is perfect for flat floors , with little twists.

3. Dance

In the longboard dance modality, as the name suggests, the execution of maneuvers is back to launching some dance steps on the deck.

Therefore, a bigger shape is required to have greater freedom of movement. Dance is perhaps the most difficult sport, as it takes a lot of practice to keep your balance, but if you love dancing, combining your passion for dancing and skateboarding could be the best of both worlds.

4. Downhill

If you like to hit high speeds on the streets, downhill is for you. The modality combines speed with slides in steep terrain. It goes without saying that practitioners are taken by great adrenaline with doses of adventure, after all, the greater the slope of the descents, the better.

Choosing the ideal shape for your role

Longboard

Well, you can already see that each modality has its characteristics, so the use of a standard longboard, with normal trucks and a longer shape is not enough to meet each specificity.

But we know that several options available on the market can drive you crazy. There are several types of shapes and trucks, so which one would be ideal? Well, if you go freeriding you need a firmer and wider deck between 9'' to 10'' and wheels from 75 to 90A. Already thinking about trucks: inverted from 180 to 200 mm it's perfect!

However, if freestyle is the category that draws your attention the most, you need to think of a resistant deck that supports maneuvers, since there is a lot of pressure on the board. Thus, you can keep the same specifications as freeride and consider purchasing a bamboo board that is successful.

On downhill it is important to consider your objective: going downhill at high speed.

That's why there's no way, trucks need to be more responsive and wheels should have greater softness. Thinking about shapes: from 9'' to 10'' without the need for a nose and a tail. The trucks can be the same as the freeride, but the wheels need to maintain a hardness of 75 to 85A.

When we got to the dance category , we noticed that the shapes have a little more nose and tail to allow for greater grip and movement. It's obvious that you can use the skateboard however you like, whether it's for walking or getting around, or even for dancing steps.

Generally, shapes between 42" and 50" in length and more flexible like bamboo are used, since heels are very welcome in this modality. And, of course, soft wheels between 80 to 90A.

Closed, guys! We reached the end of another post, what did you think? Now you, beginner skater, can choose the ideal shape according to the longboard modality you practice. Always remember to take the characteristics of the components into consideration.
