Any professional who has the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to practice their profession independently can become a freelancer. It is important to draw attention to the fact that freelancers must also have a multidisciplinary profile. To act alone, it's not enough to be good at your specialty. It is necessary to have the ability to serve customers and suppliers well and also deal with the administrative part of the business.

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF FREELANCING

Below I will list for you some positive and negative things about this work format. I think it's important that you know exactly what the joys and difficulties of being a freelancer are so that you don't enter this life with the wrong view. That way you avoid frustration in the future.

BENEFITS

Autonomy in conducting your projects / Freedom to accept or not each project; Growing as an entrepreneur through contact with several companies; Attend services such as shopping malls, cinemas, pharmacies, and banks during off-peak hours; Get away from the daily traffic of big cities; Spend more time with family; Possibility of earning more than a traditional job; Time to invest in personal projects; Have healthier lifestyle habits, such as time to exercise and improve your diet; Work comfortably at home; Work at the time you feel most productive. Did you enjoy the benefits? I really like the autonomy of working on my own. But I need to warn you, it's not all flowers. Below are some disadvantages you need to be aware of.

DISADVANTAGES

Learn to deal with prejudice. Even family and friends tend to think that your work is not serious; Vacations are unpaid; Difficulty in proving income; Variable income; Dealing with defaulting customers; Dealing with the stigma of being seen as cheap labor; There is no 13th salary; Need to learn about finance and management; Need to adapt to each customer profile; Having to accept irrelevant jobs in times of crisis; Solitary work.

As you should already suspect. Freelance life, like everything else, has its positive and negative sides. I think it's important to emphasize this a lot because it's common to see many people on the internet selling courses/products passing a fanciful image about this work format. So, here's the warning: the life of a freelancer is not all about positive things.

Below is the first episode of the Electric Device podcast in talk show format. In this program, I talked with programmer Alvaro Neto about how to prepare to start working as a freelancer. I believe it can be very useful for you who are starting.

Detail: I ask you to be patient because as it was one of the first programs, it still didn't have the same editing dynamism that we have in the most recent episodes. Still, the content is rich and worth listening to.
