A beautiful blue 1969 Z28 Chevrolet Camaro muscle car, one of only 20,302 Z28s built that year, and outstanding collections of Native American, prehistoric and modern pottery, jewelry, artwork, kachinas and rugs will come up for bid in a live online auction scheduled for Sunday, April 30th, by Golden Sun Auctions, Inc., starting at 12 noon Pacific time.
The Z28 is the auction’s expected top lot, with a pre-sale estimate of $30,000-$50,000. The car, a high-performance version of the second-generation Camaro, is powered by a 290 horse power, 302 cubic inch (4.9 liter) V8 engine, able to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.4 seconds. Features include a four-speed manual transmission, a stiff upgraded suspension and heavy-duty brakes.
Vintage car collectors will want to be mindful of the gorgeous 2005 Chevrolet Corvette also in the sale, with just 17,800 original miles (est. $15,000-$25,000). The C6 two-seater model has been meticulously maintained and is painted in the eye-catching Le Mans blue color. It boasts an 8-cylinder, 6.0-liter engine, 6-speed manual transmission, and two tops (Targa and fiberglass).
The rest of the 487-lot auction will be highlighted by a continuation of Daniel Cutrone’s amazing collection of Native American treasures. Dr. Cutrone – an Adjunct Professor of Archaeology at Cal State Dominguez Hills – specialized in the preservation of the Four Corners Indians. Many of his pieces were curated through museums, shows and other venues and come with paperwork.
Dr. Cutrone’s collection includes prehistoric pottery – Anasazi, Mogollon, Salado and more, to include bowls and dog head pitchers; Acoma pottery; vintage signed / unsigned Navajo and Zuni sterling and turquoise jewelry; and kachinas, many signed by the artist. Also offered will be pieces from another collector who lived in the Four Corners region.
Prehistoric pottery is always a big hit with collectors. This sale’s got some nice examples, to include the following:
- An 1175-1300 AD St. Johns polychrome bowl from the Mogollon (North Central Arizona and New Mexico) culture, with rope style star and center coil, 4 inches tall by 8 inches wide, comes with a certificate of authenticity (est. $250-$1,500).
- A 1050-1200 AD Kayenta ladle from the Anasazi (Northwestern Arizona) culture, with black geometric designs on white and about 5 inches long (est. $100-$600).
- An 1100-1250 AD Tularosa snowflake jar, with black geometric lines and shapes against a white background and standing around 5 ½ inches tall (est. $100-$350).
A vintage Two Grey Hills rug from the Navajo weaver Alberta Henderson, 15 inches by 27 inches, with a geometric diamond pattern in grey, black tan and off white, is expected to realize $200-$2,000. The original artworks category will be led by a vibrant, colorful oil painting by the Navajo and Hopi/Laguna artist Robert Draper (1938-2000), a desert landscape (possibly a reservation) housed in a 23 inch by 27 inch frame (est. $200-$400).
A group of three circa 1940s Native American lidded baskets, each one Papago or Tohono O’odham, ranging in height from 4 inches to 5 ½ inches and only one without an original tag, should finish at $200-$500. Also, a vintage solid sterling belt buckle created by Navajo jewelry artist Dean Brown, having three cabochon turquoise stones, with well-marked sterling and ‘DB’ on the back, 2 inches by 3 inches, is expected to hit $100-$450.
Other jewelry offerings will include a vintage Navajo sterling silver necklace with one large Peyote center bird and eight smaller birds, all with turquoise and coral chip inlay, all attached to a 20-inch double-bead strand (est. $200-$800); and a vintage Navajo sterling and turquoise cuff bracelet set with six turquoise stones, 38 g. (est. $100-$200).
A group of four kachina (or katsina) dolls, each one representing a different purpose and most artist signed (Leander Sanders, left-handed kachina; Patrick Howesa, ogre; and Preson Ami, owl), 4-9 inches tall, should fetch $60-$150; while a group of three vintage kachinas, two of them signed (Baldwin Huma, warrior maiden; and Roy Tawahongva; the unsigned one appearing to be crow mother), 9-11 inches tall, should gavel for $80-$120.
Hollywood memorabilia fans take note: the auction also features an assortment of vintage movie posters, including a 7 ½ foot tall 1940 Hopalong Cassidy in Santa Fe Marshal broadside (est. $100-$1,000); a 1948 Roy Rogers and Trigger Grand Canyon Trail one-sheet, 35 inches by 48 inches (est. $80-$120); several for Clint Eastwood movies; and a couple for Star Trek films, one with the original cast and one starring Patrick Stewart.
Also up for bid will be lovely Asian woodblock prints, original wonderful decorative pieces, other fine jewelry, sterling and silverplate serving pieces / flatware, and fine art.
Internet bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com. There will be no phone bidding. A live preview will be held on Friday, April 28th, from 12 pm noon to 6:30 pm; no appointment is necessary. The gallery is located at 720 East Walnut Avenue #B in Fullerton, Calif., zip 92831.

The John Barr Collection of Horse-Related Items and Other Fine Objects will be Auctioned February 26
Fullerton, CA, USA, February 22, 2023 -- An amazing collection of horse-related items and other objects from the estate of John Barr, who was heavily involved in the horse racing industry over the last half a century, will come for bid in a live online auction scheduled for Sunday, February 26th, by Golden Sun Auctions, Inc. (formerly Appraisal & Estate Sale Specialists), at 3 pm Pacific time.
Mr. Barr was the owner of Oakcrest Stables, the former director of Oak Tree Racing Association and president of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association. He was originally an oil man and real estate developer, but later became a prominent breeder who had several winning race horses. Some of his trophies will come up for bid in the auction.
His love of horses is evident in the collection, which ranges from Lladro to Tiffany and everything in between. The Barrs loved art, whether it was displayed on shelves or hung on a wall, like an original LeRoy Neiman jockey painting from 1965. The 11 inch by 17 inch (framed size) expressionist painting is artist signed. It should fetch $2,000-$20,000.
Mr. Barr’s wife shared her love of horses with a fine selection of jewelry, some featuring horses and others, just beautiful, including a spectacular 1.8-carat diamond ring set in 18kt gold and platinum appraised for almost $40,000 in 2004 (est. $4,000-$20,000); and a 14kt gold, sapphire and diamond ring with six deep blue sapphires (est. $5,000-$10,000).
Even some of the jewelry pieces are equestrian-themed, like the darling 18kt yellow gold horse brooch encrusted in diamonds weighing 2.25 carats, plus an emerald for an eye (est. $1,000-$2,000); and a pair of earrings that are 1.04-carat diamond studs, the diamonds cut into horse heads, stamped on the backs 14kt with a designer mark (est. $400-$800).
What could end up being the action’s top lot is a lovely antique oil on canvas painting titled Young Girl, done in the manner of the British painter Arthur William Devis (1763-1822). The 30 inch by 35 inch work has a plaque giving the title and stating that the artist is Arthur Devis. It was obtained from a New York socialite (est. $1,000-$50,000).
A wonderful painting from William Robinson Leigh (N.Y., 1866-1955), featuring a cowboy wrangling a steer, signed, unframed and 18 inches by 22 inches, has an estimate of $500-$10,000. Also, an oil on canvas by the New Zealand impressionist artist Peter Williams (1934-2018), titled Breeding Barn – Greentree Stud Farm, Kentucky (1984), purchased at The Racing Scene Gallery and nicely framed, should reach $200-$1,200.
An amazing sculpture from artist Frederick E. Hart (1943-1999), titled The Ride, #330 of 350, 16 inches tall, depicting a woman on horseback and etched with Hart’s signature on bottom and dated 1990, is estimated to finish at $500-$1,500; while a stunning Lladro horse grouping sculpture titled Born Free, No. 1420, originally produced in 1982 and still in production today, 15 inches tall and in perfect condition, should make $200-$1,000.
A Kirk Stieff sterling silver trophy for Bountiful Dreamer (owned by John Barr), winner of the California Cup Distaff horse race held on Oct. 31, 1998, 10 inches tall, weighing 940 grams, is expected to command $600-$1,000. Also, a remarkable metal table created by the visual artist Elizabeth Maria Becker (b. 1942) of Taos, New Mexico, showing an abstract horse with a landscape background, with a rustic finish, should hit $200-$1,000.
Barr and his wife were avid travelers and picked up a wonderful assortment of horse and non-horse related decorative pieces, including some terrific vintage and antique items from various countries, including Japan, China and more, which they were able to get shipped back to the US for free. Some of the pieces date as far back as the 11th century.
Just a few of the Asian items in the auction are as follows:
- A canvas on artist board by the contemporary Chinese artis Gao Xiaohua (b. 1955), titled on verso Portrait of Li Tribe Woman, featured at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts in 1987, in a 19 ½ inch by 23 ½ inch frame (est. $1,000-$7,000).
- A carved Arhat Shoushan stone figure from the Fujian province of China, 13 inches tall, the figure draped in a robe with a bead necklace, his hands resting in his lap and books by his side, the artist’s signature on back (est. $2,000-$4,000).
- A circa 11th-13th century sandstone Buddha bust from the Baphuon Period in Cambodia, 13 inches tall. The face is shown looking down, with a subtle smile, comes with a custom stand and a purchase receipt from 1992 (est. $100-$4,000).
- A large circa 19th century Chinese soapstone carving with a carved poem, 18 inches tall, the stone pale celadon tone with iron red blended passages, carved as a hatted scholar, a fisherman sheltering in a cave with stalactites (est. 200-$800).
Speaking of Asian pieces, the auction will also feature items from an avid collector, including porcelains, wood and jade carvings from the Han Dynasty, Ming Dynasty and Guangxu of the Qing dynasty, a wonderful assortment of fine jewelry, and pieces from a Japanese designer shop near downtown Los Angeles that closed down in the early 1970s.
Internet bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com. There will be no phone bidding. A live preview will be held on Friday, February 24th, from 12:30 pm to 6:30 pm; no appointment is necessary. The gallery is located at 720 East Walnut Avenue #B in Fullerton, Calif., zip 92831.

Fullerton, CA, USA, January 28, 2023 -- Items from the collection of award-winning Hollywood sound editor Milton Burrow, plus pieces from his sons who were also in the sound business in Hollywood, will come up for bid in a live online auction scheduled for Sunday, January 29th, by Golden Sun Auctions, Inc. (formerly Appraisal & Estate Sale Specialists, Inc.), starting at 12 pm Pacific time.
Mr. Burrow began working in the mailroom at MovieTone Studios (now Fox Studios), in 1950 but soon began working in the sound department. Fox, Universal, Warner Brothers and Paramount all recognized his talent for precise, accurate sound design and he forged close relationships with many of Hollywood’s biggest actors, directors and producers.
It was Clint Eastwood who gave Burrow photo stills, publicity shots and endless reels of film and sound to contribute to his own library. These are the artifacts of more than 40 years working in the film industry and more than 60 years of friendships that extended beyond his work. The collection was further brought along by his sons, Neil and Scott.
The 587-lot auction is officially titled Hollywood Memorabilia, Antiques & More. Some of the expected top-selling items feature Marilyn Monroe. These include the following:
- A dedication shadowbox for the movie Some Like It Hot (1959), featuring images that are stills from the movie and its main characters (Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis), plus a movie lobby card. The centerpiece item is a small white purse with a gold handle that’s signed by all of the above-named stars. Comes with a COA (est. $5,000-$10,000).
- Another shadowbox, filled with some beautiful photos of Ms. Monroe, a pretty costume jewelry “diamond” bracelet and a menu that was signed by Monroe. Measures 30 inches by 40 inches and includes a COA from Art of Music Management (est. $1,000-$3,000).
- A menu from a New Year’s Eve celebration in 1957 from the Fox and Hounds Superb Dining Restaurant, signed by Monroe (to “Howard”). Remarkably, the dinner, which cost just $7.50 ($79.46 today), included an appetizer, an entrée and dessert (est. $500-$1,500).
- A film reel from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (most likely not in its entirety), starring Monroe and Jane Russell, in a Warner Brothers cannister (est. $100-$1,000).
Nine sound reels, all related to the 1973 horror movie The Exorcist, including many screen tests, mainly between the actress Linda Blair and director William Friedkin, as well as Mercedes McCambridge (the voice of the demon), should bring $200-$8,000. Also, two 35mm film reels from the 1971 cult classic A Clockwork Orange, from two separate segments of the film (and unclear whether they’re from the “X” or “R” rated version), are expected to realize $100-$1,000.
One lot of 24 special effects audio recordings from the 1981 movie Outland, starring Sean Connery, Peter Boyle and Frances Sternhagen (who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress), has an estimate of $100-$5,000; while two reels from the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), starring Richard Dreyfuss, each appearing to be in black and white and labeled as “DUPE”, from Neil Burrows, who was on the sound effects staff, should finish at $100-$1,500.
Lots 11-15 are individual Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reels Awards issued to Milton Burrow during the 1970s for his work on TV shows (including the special, Raid on Entebbe) and a movie, Birds of Prey) have estimates of $200-$2,000 each. Also, concert footage from the 1973 Led Zeppelin concert titled The Song Remains the Same, held on July 28th and 29th at Madison Square Garden in New York, possibly the concert in its entirety, should command $100-$2,500.
Also up for bid will be a rare Mattel commercial for a never-released toy; audio recordings for the movie Smokey and the Bandit Part II; Russ Meyer footage; vintage Looney Tunes cartoons and other vintage cartoons; vintage television commercials; and much more film/audio footage.
Other categories in the sale will feature spectacular 19th century furniture (secretaries, desks and buffets), lighting, incredible and rare server ware in sterling, original artwork, ladies’ accessories (sterling compacts, purses and furs), amazing figurines (including a rare Vion & Baury, Boehm & Conte, others), comic books, sports memorabilia, jewelry and coins.
Lots 260-266 are Royal Copenhagen porcelain pieces in the blue fluted Half Lace pattern (dinner, bread, dessert and salad plates, cups and bowls), most dating from the 1950s-1960s. Estimates range from $100-$500. Also, a set of sterling flatware for eight from Gorham in the Buttercup pattern (1899-1950), most having the anchor and lion mark, plus a silver teaspoon from Alvin in the Chateau Rose pattern (1940) should hit $400-$1,000.
An antique American primitive red painted step back cupboard made from pine and wood and having a single glass upper door with a single shelf and notches for hanging spoons, 82 inches tall, has an estimate of $500-$3,500. Also, a circa 1860 Neo-Gothic carved oak desk with heavily carved details of acanthus leaf and pillars on front with carved masks applied to the sides, leather top and ornate brass drawer pulls, should reach $200-$1,500.
A circa 1870 solid oak partner's desk, one side all drawers with a center drawer for writing implements, the other side having a single center drawer with file cabinet style drawers, all original hardware, is estimated at $200-$1,500; while a circa 1890 Victorian Renaissance Revival secretary desk having fleur de lis pediment and a drop-front desk with multiple slots and two small drawers, 76 inches tall, should sell for $200-$800.
The original artwork category is plentiful and will feature these outstanding offerings:
- An artwork by George Henry Burgess (English/American, 1831-1905), titled Camp Above Ft. Yale, Frazer R. (River), B.C. (British Columbia), artist dated 1858 and measuring 8 ½ inches by 11 inches (sight, less matte) (est. $200-$2,000).
- A limited-edition print from the renowned American illustrator Norman Rockwell, titled Ye Pipe & Bowl, originally created in 1926, signed and numbered (180/200) by Rockwell in 1976 and in a 27 ½ inch by 33 ½ inch frame (est. $200-$1,500).
- A 1915 landscape painting by the Iowa-born California artist Benjamin Franklin Galbraith (1864-1956), signed and dated lower left and measuring 12 inches by 18 inches (unframed). It shows a dirt road leading to a wooded area (est. $100-$300).
Internet bidding will be provided by LiveAuctioneers.com. There will be no phone bidding. A live preview will be held on Friday, January 27th, from 12 noon to 6:30 pm; no appointment is necessary. The gallery is located at 720 East Walnut Avenue #B in Fullerton, Calif. 92831.
