Microdiscectomy is a surgery to remove the herniated disc fragments. The herniated disc fragments cause pressure on the nerve root causing Sciatica or severe shooting pain in the leg. The pressure on the nerve root may also cause weakness of loss of sensations in the affected leg. In some extreme cases when the herniation is very large, passage of urine may also get impaired, known as Cauda equina syndrome.
HERNIATED DISC SURGERY, also known as MICRODISCECTOMY is a gold standard for treatment of slipped lumbar disc, which has failed conservative treatment.
In this video, the surgery uses a tubular approach with an 18mm tube which acts as a conduit to reach the affected disc prolapse segment without any trauma to the muscles and soft tissues in between. This does not lead to any significant muscle weakness in post-op period and provides an excellent view to a surgeon for removal of the herniated disc fragment.

Lumbar canal stenosis refers to tightness and pressure on nerves inside the spinal canal. Lumbar canal stenosis is very common in the elderly population and causes pain with numbness on walking. This pain gets better with rest and these symptoms are called Neurogenic claudication.
The treatment in initially conservative with physiotherapy. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment and provides lasting relief.
With modern microsurgical techniques, the surgery can be performed in a relatively painless fashion, with short hospital stay and return to work. This video describes a technique used to decompress the nerves using a tubular retractor system.

Schwannomas or Neurofibromas are benign tumours arising from the nerve sheath of the nerves. The tumours are slow growing and do not invade adjacent structures. The treatment for such tumours is surgical excision.
Conventionally these tumours have been removed using open techniques. Recent advances have made a minimally invasive surgical approach possible. This reduces the post-operative pain and early mobilisation after surgery.
Minimally invasive spine surgery has made surgeries for spine safe and painless. The reduced hospitalisation, minimal pain, and minimal blood loss lead to enhanced recovery.

Lumbar microdiscectomy is a surgery to remove the herniated disc fragments. The herniated disc fragments cause pressure on the nerves leading to sciatica pain in the leg. Lumbar microdiscectomy can be done as a daycare procedure. The advantages of MICRODISCECTOMY are painless and faster recovery as compared to conventional methods of open surgery.
