Should never have been debatable on the first place. Growth & development is one of the greatest needs and is placed on the highest level in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. And being a ‘need’ it should be free from any value judgements. I mean we don’t debate about eating, drinking and sleeping. Working or not working is a personal choice. This Mother’s Day let us pledge to inspire a stay at home mom to live her purpose, help a working mother cope with the pressure of juggling between work and home, support a new mother emotionally, discard the redundant social conventions viz. A woman working late is irresponsible and a man working late is industrious; a woman working post motherhood wouldn’t make a good mother and a man being a stay at home father in no way takes away his masculinity. The society must do its bit but a lot rests on the woman herself. Like Dolly Parton said: The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain”. Make a conscious decision to take the rein in your hands and work towards your independence. Nothing can stop you from fulfilling your dreams if you are willing to endure and withstand. Motherhood is the greatest proof of the strength you already have. Realize your potential and don’t make your child an obstacle. Remember there’s life beyond motherhood.
