Medical technology has used bacteriophages (virulent phages) to recognize and identify pathogenic bacteria. Bacterial resistance and susceptibility to bacteriophage attacks can be used to determine bacterial strains in its classification system. Each bacterial strain shows a certain type of lysis if it is infected by a certain type of phage. How to determine bacterial strains by looking at the type of lysis after being infected with certain phages is called determining the type of phage. This determination process is routinely used to identify pathogenic bacteria, for example staphylococci and typhoid bacilli. Thus, phage is a tool to diagnose a disease and to follow the spread of the disease in the community. Lysogenic in bacteria is a conceptual model for studying oncogenic viruses (viruses that cause cancer) because they also have the ability to perpetuate their genetic material in infected cells.
