A Dental extraction (also referred to as tooth extraction, tooth pulling) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone. Tooth extraction is usually relatively straightforward, and the vast majority can be usually performed quickly while the individual is awake by using local anesthetic injections to eliminate painful sensations.
Extractions can be of two types:
1.Simple extractions where extractions are performed on teeth that are usually visible in the mouth and they can be extracted using local anesthesia. 2.Surgical extractions involve the removal of teeth that cannot be easily accessed, either because they have broken under the gum line or because they have not erupted fully. Surgical extractions almost always require an incision.

Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons:
1) Teeth which cannot be restored because of severe tooth decay, trauma and especially when they are associated with toothache. 2) Severe infection. 3) Supernumerary teeth which are blocking other teeth from coming in. 4) Severe gum disease. 5) In preparation for orthodontic treatment (braces). 6) Teeth in the fracture line. 7) Teeth which cannot be restored endodontically. 8) Fractured teeth. 9) Sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted (stuck and unable to grow normally into the mouth) and may cause recurrent infections of the gum (pericoronitis). 10) Teeth are of poor appearance, unsuitable for restoration. 11) Receiving radiation therapy to the head and neck area may require extraction of teeth in the field of radiation.
Complications which might occur after extraction:
Complications can arise post extraction. A list of which is as follows :
1) Infection. 2) Prolonged bleeding. 3) Swelling. 4) Bruising. 5) Sinus exposure. 6) Trismus (incomplete mouth opening). 7) Nerve injury. 8) Dry socket.

A Dental Implant is a screw shaped titanium fixture that is used to replace the root of a missing tooth. Dental Implants is a well known treatment used to replace missing tooth. The implants act like a foundation to support crowns, bridges or dentures. The implant is connected directly to the bone. This connection is called Osseointegration. This bond is strong enough to withstand the forces during chewing.
Where can Dental Implants be used?
Replace a single missing tooth
Replace a multiple missing teeth
Why should missing teeth be replaced?
When you lose a tooth several negative things may happen. Aesthetics and chewing ability may be lost and teeth may start drifting. Replacing a missing tooth not only helps to prevent the collapse of your bite, it replaces form, function and aesthetics and brings about harmony to your dentition.

Metal braces/Traditional braces
These are the metal brackets and wires that are used to align the teeth.
The new heat-activated archwires use your body heat to help your teeth move more quickly and less painful than in the past.
Advantage : Affordable and available in colored bands
Disadvantage : Most noticeable type of braces
Ceramic Braces
Ceramic braces have the same shape and size as metal braces, except that they have the color of the tooth or are clear brackets that blend into teeth. Some even use tooth-colored wires as they are less noticeable
Advantage: Less noticeable than metal braces; move teeth much faster than clear plastic aligners (Invisalign)
Disadvantage: More expensive than metal braces; Brackets can stain easily if patients don’t care for them

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. You may not feel any pain in the early stages of the infection.
In some cases, your tooth could darken in color, which may mean that the nerve of the tooth has died (or is dying). This would need root canal treatment.
Root canal treatment is required when you have following signs and symptoms:
A broken tooth
Pain in teeth while chewing
Discolored teeth
Intense sensitivity to heat, cold or sweet food/drinks
Swelling in gums

Facts about the treatment:
A root canal therapy is intended to stop the spread of infection while preserving the natural tooth.
Your tooth and roots are not removed. The canals are cleaned and shaped on the inside only.
Root canal procedure is not painful
Root canal treatment is safe and usually very successful
WHAT WILL MY TOOTH LOOK LIKE AFTER TREATMENT?
In the past, a root-filled tooth would often darken after treatment. However, with modern techniques this does not usually happen. If there is any discolouration, there are several treatments available to restore the natural appearance.
WHAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN?
Root canal treatment is usually very successful. However, if the infection comes back, the treatment can sometimes be repeated.
WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE THE TREATMENT?
The alternative is to have the tooth out. Once the pulp is destroyed it can’t heal, and it is not recommended to leave an infected tooth in the mouth.
Although some people would prefer to have the tooth out, it is usually best to keep as many natural teeth as possible.
WILL THE TOOTH BE SAFE AFTER TREATMENT?
Yes. However, as a dead tooth is more brittle, it may be necessary to restore the tooth with a crown to provide extra support and strength to the tooth.
