Welcome to autoX's 'Best of 2020' mega track test! This year might not have filled our hearts with joy, but before it ended, we had an important thing to do – identify the best cars of the year 2020 and the best bikes of 2020. So, we lined up over 40 contenders at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. As always, all the new cars and bikes from 2020 slugged it out to win the ‘Best of 2020’ award, but only the best cars in India made it to the list. Even though 2020 hasn't actually gone to plan, we saw a bunch of exciting products arrive on our shores this year. While the Hyundai Creta, Honda City, Tata Altroz, and Kia Sonet stormed the mass market segment, we have had the likes of the stonking BMW M8 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and Audi Q8 make waves at the other end of the spectrum. And how can we forget the sensational new Mercedes EQC – an all-electric luxury SUV that's here to change the game of luxury motoring forever? The Mahindra Thar is, without a doubt, the most popular vehicle of the year, while the MG Gloster is another interesting SUV that has made its India debut recently. The Kia Carnival, on the other, has proved that SUVs aren't necessarily the only option if you need a premium and spacious people-mover. Apart from these, there are a lot of existing products that have received a heart transplant in 2020. These include the VW Polo, Tiguan Allspace, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Kicks Turbo, Renault Duster Turbo, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Turbo & Verna, Tata Harrier, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, and Vitara Brezza. We tested all of the above contenders, and some more, to find out the best cars of 2020 – those that truly deserve autoX’s 'Best of 2020' awards. Welcome to autoX's 'Best of 2020' mega track test! This year certainly may not have filled our hearts with joy but before we close it out, we have an important thing to do. Identify the best cars and bikes of 2020. In order to do that, we lined up over 40 contenders at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. As always, all the new cars and bikes from 2020 slugged it out to take the ‘Best of 2020’ honours, but only the Top 10 will make it. Even though there wasn’t enough action in the two-wheel segment this year, there were a couple of standout motorcycles and scooters that were launched in 2020. In the mass market segment, Hero surprised with its all-new Xtreme 160R and Honda did something similar with the launch of the Hornet 2.0. Yamaha, on the other hand, forayed into the 125cc scooter segment with the launch of the Ray ZR 125 and Fascino 125. In case scooters aren’t your thing, Hero launched the all-new premium commuter, the Glamour 125, for the masses. For enthusiasts, the launch of the KTM 390 Adventure and Husqvarna Svartpilen and Vitpilen was perhaps the biggest occasion of 2020. In the middleweight and more premium ADV segment, the all-new and quite sensational Tiger 900 made its entry into the Indian market, while Honda too gave the Africa Twin a thorough update with a bigger engine and new frame, while also giving it sophisticated electronics, including a touchscreen instrument cluster. Last but not least, the Ducati Panigale V2. With its 955cc twin motor, along with gorgeous bodywork and electronics package of the Panigale V4, the V2 is all the (super)bike that you’ll possibly need in a country like ours. Our job was to test each of these machines in order to crown the top 4, including the Performance Bike of the Year, with the ‘Best of 2020’ honours.
