So just continue reading and you will be able to pull it off, safely and without any trouble.
1. Plan your post retirement relocation correctly
Planning your move is crucial and it can make all the difference. So plan for everything like when do you want to move, what are the goods that you want to move, which items requires special care, what items can be sold to cover the moving expense and so on.
A detailed relocation plan can be of great help.
2. Find and hire moving companies
Do it yourself hacks are good, when you have some experience and a helping hand. But in general, it's always better to use professional packing and moving services from a local moving company available near you.
There are tons of options there, but you have to be a little smart when finding and evaluating moving companies. Here's a detailed post that talks about how to compare and evaluate moving companies, make sure to check it out.
But to get you started, the idea is to check quotations from minimum three local moving companies and evaluate them based on their charges, delivery time, packing quality and overall business credentials. And yes, don't hesitate to check if they have any special package and offer for senior citizens, as many moving companies in India offer special packages for seniors and defense personals.
3. List of things you should be tracking
It's always better to make a list of essential and important thing to do and track. And this list may consist of each and every task that relates to relocation. Be it finding moving companies or updating address, getting post move house cleaning done or hiring a pest control service for your your new home where you are moving to.
Make a detailed list of things according to your need and situation so that you can track the progress and don't miss out on any of the important tasks.
4. What is to be done on the date of moving
Now, just before a day or two, you should confirm the schedule with the moving company. It's not uncommon for movers to disappear at the last moment, so to be sure, just confirm that they are arriving as per the schedule. You don't want to get in to a situation where the moving company you had confirmed disappears for any reason.
Now that you have confirmed the schedule with the packer and mover company, the next step is to prepare for the day of packing. Now, movers are going to pack the usual domestic household materials, but there are any things that have to be packed by you.
So, get ready to pack the essential survival box, which should contain all the essential items for survival during the move. Essential items like, your daily medicines, first aid kit, torch, lighters, candles, diapers etc that you may need anytime during relocation.
Next, you got to pack other important possessions like documents, jewellery, keys etc things that have to be carried on your own and can't be handed over to the movers.
Apart from that, once the movers have arrived, do help them in sorting the items and supervise their work, to ensure all is going as per the plan.
Finally, let the movers pack, seal, and label, prepare the packing list and load the packed items and get it transported to your home.
5. How to receive the delivery of goods
Now in couple of days, your goods should reach your new home. Make sure to be there before the truck arrives. Once the move team starts unloading those boxes and furniture etc, make sure to count each of the items and it should match with the packing list.
Take a good look at all the items and if there is anything wrong, inform the moving company and also mention the same as remark on the packing and delivery list.
6. How to unpack and settle in
Now that goods have arrived, the next task at hand is to get the boxes unpacked and items are-arranged. If the movers are doing the unpacking and re-arranging, then there is no issues. But, if you have to do it on your own, then don't try to unpack everything in one go.
Unpack as per the need and do it systematically.
Over to you
Packing and moving the entire household goods post retirement can be tiring and overwhelming, not matter how many times you have relocated in the past. But unless you plan everything in detail, you are always at the risk of moving mishaps and scams.
