The regency set is available in Ebony Wood, Bud Rosewood and Ebonized Wood. 3. The Biedermeier Chess Set The “Biedermeier” period is the period of the French Revolution in 1830 in France. The typical figure fo these times in Germany and Austria were “proper Mr. meier” (= der biedere Herr Meier), an archetype of the politically passive, worksome and philistrian petit bourgeois. These chessmen were made in the 19th century mainly in Germany and Austria. There are different variations of Biedermeier chessmen and the one with slope bishops are the most remarkable chessmen ever produced. There were also known as the Barleycorn-style chess set. The fine carving and lathe work is a looker and they were initially produced in the ivory.
