When it comes to movie sequels, it is fair to say Disney makes quite an amazing mark. It makes most of its business by producing a follow-up film with a simple “2†in the title.
Previously, such titles often indicated the movie was not as important as the first, and would often go directly to DVD, or VHS in the old days. Times have changed since then.
Plenty of Disney fans love reminiscing with the past to see and experience stories of Cinderella’s Jack Jack, The Little Mermaid, Hercules, Lion King, Pinocchio, and more.
What’s to say they would want to watch a sequel to any of these or just re-watch the old? In a time where Disney Plus exists, anything is actually possible.
The streaming platform attracts a global audience of Disney aficionados, proving to be a mysterious portal that gives access to decades worth of Disney movies/TV shows,
Not to mention, Star Wars films and Marvel TV shows. Indeed, Disney has also pushed us to let our imagination go as far as it can go in the world of fantasy.
Keeping that in mind, here is a list of five Disney movies that should get a sequel, as they are ready for a second feature on the infamous Disney Plus platform. (Here are a few VPNs you can use for unblocking the platform, if you reside outside the US.)
1. Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
I think nobody can forget this movie. A classic of its time, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit†featured the best 2d animation techniques, blended with live-action. In simple words, it did the unthinkable by showcasing a wide cast of Looney Tunes characters, besides real-life actors. A sequel to this would be a treat for any Disney lover!
2. The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
A stop-motion classic from Tim Burton, this Disney movie follows the story of a demotivated skeleton, who lives in Halloween town. In an attempt to make life more entertaining, he puts himself in charge of Christmas, kidnapping Santa Claus himself. Nobody could figure out if it was a Halloween or Christmas movie, but a sequel would be one major flashback!
3. Tangled (2010)
This might be an unpopular opinion but a re-imagination of Rapunzel’s story would be quite welcome, especially for the new generation. Considering the movie is now a decade old, the animations and CGI techniques can definitely be pushed further to create a more close-to-real-life experience. It’s a light story great for kids to watch!
4. Zootropolis (2016)
Zootropolis made its way into the cinematic world back in 2016, similar to Moana. This marked the first time Walt Disney released two feature films, after the release of Lilo & Stitch and Treasure Planet. Undoubtedly, Zootropolis was a great watch and focused on heady topics like societal division, workplace discrimination, and more.
5. Moana (2016)
Thanks to Dwayne “The Rock†Johnson playing the loveable demigod, Lil Manuel-Miranda’s heart stirring lyrics, and the gorgeous 3D-animated world, Moana marks a name for itself as the best Disney movie in recent years. While there are talks of making a sequel, nothing is confirmed, but one would certainly be appreciated by Disney lovers!
Wrapping Things Up
These 5 movies proved to be a visual delight at least for me. The stories were unnerving, heartwarming, with some incredible good twists. It would be great to see sequels of these movies appearing. What do you have to say about it?
