Telemedicine is the use of clinical information shared from a site to another via digital communications to enhance the clinical health status of patients, according to the American Telemedicine Association. Thirty-four participants were given an iPad with video conferencing capability, and a diabetes care team looked after the people using virtual iPad visits. Participants of the diabetes care team received a 5-item survey after 30, 60, 90, and 180 days. 65% of the people with diabetes were satisfied with using virtual visits, and 76% of the participants reported improvement in their blood sugar control. From the results, it was concluded; Telemedicine could have the potential for treating Type 2 diabetes remotely. They recommend further studies that include the cost of the new system. The American Telemedicine Association lists medical practices throughout the United States that use Telemedicine for diabetes care.
