Outside of the manatees and crocodiles that Florida is so famous for, our state is also home to some of the lesser-known native species - the rodents. These pests can definitely be a nuisance when found indoors, and getting them out of the house can be a hassle. There are three main species of rodents near the Tampa Bay area - the rooftop rats, the Norwegian rat, and the house rat. Knowing what kind of rodent has invaded your home is the first step in eliminating it. Let's talk about how to recognize these rodents and the best ways to keep them out of your home!

Roof rats
Rooftop mice are the most common invader in the region. Their fur can be colored anywhere from deep black to grayish gray - or even tan. They often have lighter colored stomachs and tails that are longer than their bodies. They weigh between ½ pound to 1 pound and have spindle-shaped litters up to an inch long. They can often be found in attics, rooftop spaces, palm trees, and other indoor shrubs, and can cause a great deal of damage from chewing electrical wires and rafters. Their favorite food is vegetables, fruits, and grains.

Norway rats
Norway rats are larger than rooftop rats and are more likely to be found in coastal areas. They have reddish brown fur, a heavy body with a sharp muzzle, and a tail that is shorter than their bodies. Adults weigh between 1 pound and 1 pound and have capsule-shaped litters that are about half an inch long. Norwegian Rats are known as burrows and love to burrow into litter piles or under concrete slabs. This behavior can cause basic corrosion and stability problems, and it can also clog sewer lines. They prefer to eat meat, fish, and grains but can survive just as easily on litter and small amounts of water.
House mice
House mice usually live outdoors, but they sometimes migrate indoors to live behind walls or in furniture that can give them safety. They are brown to gray in color and have long tails, roughly the same size as their bodies. It weighs only an ounce and has rod-shaped litter that is about an inch long. While they prefer grains, they can survive on a wide variety of foods and don't even need water depending on the moisture content in the rest of their diet.
How to prevent rodent infestations
No matter what type of rodents you find in your home, getting rid of them should be your first priority. Not only can it cause structural damage to your home and damage electrical wires, but it is also very unhealthy. Rodents often urinate and leave feces wherever they are, which can lead to rapid contamination of the place your family and pets call home. Here are some simple steps you can take to help keep your home rodent-free:
Keep your home free of crumbs: These critters often come to your home in search of warmth and food, so it is important to ensure that you are not attracted to them with easily accessible food sources. Kitchen crumbs, unsecured litter, pet food, and even salt can be a great meal for rodents, so be sure to keep food and litter in airtight containers. Knowing the diet for any type of rodent that engages your home can help you target specific food sources to better address the problem.
Block off potential entry points: Mice and rats can enter your home through openings as small as ¼ of an inch. Gaps under entryways, unobscured windows and roof vents, and openings in side and crawl spaces are all easy access points for these tiny pests. Tapping holes, installing screens, and stripping off the weather can make your home even more difficult - keeping mice and rats outside where they belong.
Identify the inhibitions: Mice and rats can survive on a variety of foods, but there are some food groups that seem disgusting. Mint and bay leaves left near potential entry points will help repel critters as well as mothballs. If you use mothballs, be sure to place them out of the reach of children and pets, as they are toxic not only to rodents but large pets and humans as well. Another great deterrent to the mouse is its natural predator: the cat. Whether you are indoors or outdoors, a cat will make your home less attractive to mice and rats and can go a long way in keeping her away from your home and out of your property.
Set traps: Placing traps outside your home is a good way to lure rodents out of your home, and it gives you a chance to get rid of them or resettle them somewhere else so they can't return to visit. Traps should be located near suspected entrances, such as unlocked exterior attic entrances, small holes in the sides, or doors with gaps more than an inch underneath.
Call the experts: Since rodents can cause structural damage to your home and electrical wiring, it is important to take the infection seriously and deal with it as quickly as possible. Professionals like them are best equipped to handle injuries in the safest and most effective way and can help keep your home free from rodents for a long time.

Bearing in mind that air conditioners are one of the most expensive home appliances, users should follow necessary safety measures as serious HVAC problems usually occur due to user negligence. Regular maintenance and repair sessions for air conditioners are necessary on time, but it is not sufficient. In other words, instead of spending money frequently on repair services, you should try to prevent AC breakdowns. Here in this blog, we discuss why we need to keep rodents out of our air conditioning system. This is because these creepy creatures may cause massive damage to your valuable air conditioner, forcing you to contact AC repair technicians.

Let's explore how these rodents create problems for air conditioning systems.
They can chew wires
One of the most widely known AC problems caused by rodents is that it can damage electrical wires which is undoubtedly a serious problem. Therefore, you need to prevent those rodents from accessing the wires connected to your air conditioner. Covering the wires completely is the easiest solution to this problem, but you should hire a professional electrician for this.

Some of them can also block airflow
At this point when a rat or other rodent somehow enters the return openings, they begin to obstruct the flow of air. This places unnecessary stress on the cooling system, forcing the machine to work harder, sometimes resulting in a complete breakdown.
It produces an unpleasant odor
If rodents find shelter in your air conditioner, they will find an unpleasant odor coming out of your air conditioner only a matter of time. So, never ignore this because if the problem is not resolved in time, it can cause more damage.
It could be harmful to your health
Do we really need to tell you that having rodents in your air conditioning system can be harmful to your health? Yes, because the inner atmosphere will soon be contaminated with harmful bacteria on the bodies of these organisms. So, if you don't want to face situations like these, try to keep those critters out of your conditioner.

Wasps do not often interact with people, but if provoked, they can sting. Wasp stings can be painful for everyone and threaten allergy sufferers. If you have a wasp problem, here's everything you need to know about these pesky insects, including how to get rid of wasps naturally, how to check for infestation, and how to kill wasps by killing homemade wasps.

What do wasps look like?
Wasps are not bees and usually have longer and more agile bodies. It usually feeds on insects such as flies, larvae, and spiders, as well as nectar. Wasps have six legs, two wings, and two horns on their head, an exoskeleton, and a body that is divided into three main parts: the head, chest, and abdomen.

Unlike a bee, a female wasp can sting repeatedly, as its sting has small spines that do not penetrate into the skin. A female wasp needle is located at the tip of its lower body and doubles as a reproductive organ through which it lays eggs. On the other hand, male hornets cannot sting.

How do you get hornets?
Three main elements that attract wasps to live in your home or yard:
Ideal nesting spots, such as eaves, gutters, and tubes that provide protection
Sweet blossoms full of nectar and plant life
Food sources, such as litter bags, pet food containers, and outdoor eating areas with crumbs, sticky spills, or an abundance of insects or spiders
Aside from the painful sting, wasps also pose a deadly danger to anyone allergic to the injected venom. Symptoms of a wasp sting usually include local pain, swelling, itching, and mild redness at the site of the bite.
