Let’s start right off the bat and say moisturizing can help keep aging at bay. Think about it this way, you won’t go about your day without drinking water, so you have to make sure you’re hydrating your skin to keep it healthy.
Here are five practical ways to keep your skin moisturized.
Moisturize every day. Dermatologists can’t stress this enough and for good reasons. Moisturizers hold water in your skin, keeping it smooth and supple. Whether you’re a man or a woman, whether your skin is oily, sensitive or dry, remember to keep moisturizing a part of your daily routine. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)
recommends application of moisturizer frequently throughout the day.
Steer clear of hot baths. Soaking in the hot tub may be soothing but keep in mind that hot water dries out your skin and makes it feel itchy and irritated. Hot water removes your natural skin oils more quickly. If you need to relax, settle for warm water instead.
Use a gentle skin care products. Stay away from harsh products like deodorant bars, antibacterial soaps, perfumed soaps and other skin products that contain alcohol because they strip oils from your skin. When choosing skin care items, look for those that are mild, moisturizing and fragrance-free.
Drink plenty of water. This sounds like a rundown cliché, but drinking plenty of water hydrates not only your skin but your entire body. Keeping yourself hydrated is one of the best ways to prevent premature aging.
Always wear sunscreen. Protect your skin from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Apply sunscreen every day, all year long, even during winter! Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 (or higher), and water-resistant. Remember to reapply sunscreen every day to all skin that is not covered by clothing.
