Microdiscectomy is a surgery to remove the herniated disc fragments. The herniated disc fragments cause pressure on the nerve root causing Sciatica or severe shooting pain in the leg. The pressure on the nerve root may also cause weakness of loss of sensations in the affected leg. Falcine meningiomas arise from the falx region in between the two cerebral hemispheres. The aim of surgery is to completely excise the tumour and also remove the attachment so the that tumour does not recur. The surgery is performed under an operating microscope. Far lateral disc herniations are uncommon but very painful. The disc herniates outside the neural foramen as compared to the more common postero-lateral herniations, which occur inside the spinal canal. These herniations require surgery in most cases.
