Writing letters has been replaced by e-mail services like Yahoo mail, Hotmail and Gmail. Now people do not need to go to the post-office and wait for weeks until the addressee receives their letter. Thus, e-mails made communication more convenient, cheaper and quicker. Video conferences have become one of the greatest innovations for business organizations. On the other hand, modern communication technologies have a range of drawbacks as compared to traditional face-to-face communication. At our university, the usage of visual representation of information is obligatory every time a student makes a report. However, my favorite one is Power Point. Recently, our group had a task to prepare a report about two German federative lands. I had to talk about Bremen and Hamburg. I was to investigate the economy of these areas, their cultural development and the most popular places of interest. The professor said the student whose report would be the most interesting would get the highest mark. In order not to fail, I did my best in preparing this task. I designed a range of diagrams where I compared the economy of these lands; a great number of pictures were shown in my report. Moreover, I even managed to make a video about the most popular tourist places in Hamburg and in Bremen. In my presentation, I used not only visual methods of presentation but also audio ones. I added a record of the anthems to the presentation. The information I presented orally could be accepted by other channels of communication that made the text more understandable. As a result, I was awarded not only with the best mark but also with applauses of my group-mates. Thus, we can conclude that the main purpose of visual representation is to help people to interpret adequately what the message implies. The usage of visual presentation will definitely increase the understanding of abstract information, evoke human imagination and allow them to memorize the key points of the report.
