Yoga is an Indian spiritual and physical practice or discipline whose origins date back to prehistoric times. Contrary to what some may think, Yoga is not just about exercise with the main purpose of improving health and well-being, but it’s also about self-realization.
The importance of Yoga in our lives cannot be underestimated. It is a science that focuses on improving not only physical health but also mental and spiritual well-being, which are the foundations of our life.
You will be surprised at how many health benefits Yoga has to offer. From offering relief from stress and weight management to improving your overall health, this ancient practice can help you live an ideal life.
A Brief Look At Yoga
Yoga is an age-old art, which has helped millions of people all over the world to attain a better state of physical and mental health.
Today, it is used by all, mostly by those who are suffering from stress and back pain. Usually yoga is thought to be something related to the exercises of the body but yoga isn’t just exercise. Yoga also makes one’s mind stronger and healthier and leads him towards a better way of living. The best yoga websites will tell you about perfect poses for your body, which will help you improve your health in ways that you haven’t imagined before.
The practice of Yoga is increasing throughout the globe. One of the main reasons for its popularity is that even doctors are advising patients on the worth of yoga. Yoga is being intensively studied by scientists and it is proved that yoga calms and relaxes both mind and body and uplifts the spirit. It is an exceptional discipline for getting a good mind and keeping yourself healthy.
The Importance Of Yoga
Mental benefits
Aside from the physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is how it helps a person manage mental health. Most importantly, yoga helps anyone deal with stress, which is known to have devastating effects on the body and mind. According to Dr. Nevins, “Stress can reveal itself in many ways, including back or neck pain, sleeping problems, headaches, drug abuse, and an inability to concentrate”. Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills. This practice helps people to reach a more positive outlook on their life.
Heightened Concentration
The improved concentration is one of the many benefits of a calm mind. The survivors of modern life know the importance of concentration because they often find themselves juggling numerous tasks. Meditation is one potent practice for sharpening the focus. In meditation, you bring your attention either to the breath, mantra, or any visual every time your mind wanders.
Strength & Flexibility
The sedentary lifestyle is the begetting of many physical health problems like limited flexibility, low strength, poor posture, stiffness, and many more. The performance of yoga asanas encourages body movement in different directions, assisting in opening that reduces stiffness, increases joint mobility, and releases pent-up emotions leading to strength and flexibility.
Greater strength and flexibility are crucial for the healthy maintenance of muscles, tissues, and ligaments.
Discipline and Mindfulness in Life
By implementing the Yamas and Niyamas written in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, you invite more discipline and mindfulness into your living. The five Yamas and Niyamas are the ethical codes of living a virtuous life.
To honor these ethics during the span of life means – being mindful in every action, performing acts with compassion, and living life in the present moment.
End Words
Yoga is rightly called ‘A science to live in harmony with self and the world’ – it is not only for keeping our body fit but also helps us to keep our mind and soul active. The practice blends the body, mind, and soul together and enables us to be happy, peaceful, and content by transforming our attitudes, behavior, and outlook towards life. It makes us more positive, optimistic and cheerful.

Have you been curious about yin yoga but not sure what it is?
While the name might sound strange, yin yoga is a type of yoga where postures
are held for long periods of time.
It’s like regular yoga, except that you spend more time on
the floor. You might be thinking to yourself, “What’s the point in doing that?â€
When you have an injury or pain in your body, the best way to go about healing
is usually through rest and compression.
This is exactly what yin yoga will do for you.
What is Yin
Yoga?
Yin yoga is a powerful approach to strength and flexibility
that allows your body to get in better alignment. It releases tension and
stress from the muscles and creates a tranquil state of mind. It’s a slower
practice style that focuses on your wellbeing.
This is a different type of yoga that focuses on stretching
and opening the joints, as well as relaxing the body.
Yin yoga involves holding poses for a long time. Slow, steady
movements can help to relax your muscles and joints. After you try this type of
yoga, you’ll feel yourself stretch out and relax.
Why should
you try it?
Yin yoga can help you feel more relaxed and rejuvenated.
The gentle and deliberate style of yoga may well be suitable
for people with restricted mobility or those who just want to concentrate on
their breathing.
The short-duration “asanas†are held for longer periods than
in the more common variety and the method of learning is simple and often
requires little physical strength. In a nutshell, the lack of strenuous
workouts, combined with relaxing meditations, is thought to help slow down and
appreciate every moment of our lives.
The asanas are designed to bring together awareness of body
parts, breath, and the effect of movement on the body and mind. By learning to
observe your body as it moves, and staying aware of the physiological effects
of each posture, you’ll find it easier to differentiate between an imbalance
and a problem to solve.
Yin Yoga
And The Body
Yin yoga is a form of yoga that focuses on balancing energy
channels (yuks) with the help of a balanced flow of prana (or life force) from
the chakras.
This life force flow is what we are born with and that is
what gives us our physical and emotional energy centers. So it makes sense that
yin yoga would help assist yogis to enter into balancing states more fully without
as much painful effort.
Yoga, with its emphasis on lengthening poses that may
stimulate the flow of energy, may have benefits that become apparent after
prolonged practice.
In addition to
producing an array of health benefits, yoga may have a profound impact on
relationships by strengthening the bonds that tie people together.
Stretching alone isn’t enough. Yin yoga can also help a
beginner to enjoy traditional poses more. Most poses in yoga are held for only
a few seconds and practiced for a few minutes. Yin yoga challenges people to
hold longer, deeper postures.
How To
Start A Yin Yoga Practice
Although there are several variations of Yin Yoga, beginners
should take advice from their instructor and experiment with different
variations.
Unlike Yang yoga, where the focus is on an ultimate goal of a
good body, Yin Yoga is a practice that has many different aims, so trying
different postures and positions is very important.
Beginners should start by beginning with Yin Yoga posture
warm-ups to improve their flexibility, slow the body down, and calm the mind. You
can also experiment with different postures and poses, and work with a
close-fitting bra and leggings. However, the most essential is to have the
right attitude to yoga practice. Asana is only a small part of it.
Conclusion
Yin yoga is a more structured style of yoga that incorporates
elements of Chinese medicine and ancient Indian yoga into a structured flow.
If you are in pain, or just want to give your body a break
from the stresses and strains of life, then Yin yoga might be what you’re
looking for. This type of yoga focuses on balancing our body as well as
immersing ourselves in the Yin energy that surrounds us.
The practice of yoga is an ancient form of exercise that
focuses on building strength, flexibility, and endurance. However, if you’re
looking for something less intense and more relaxing, a yin yoga class might be
for you.
If you’re ready to dive deeper into your practice, PIES Fitness Yoga can guide you to
the right classes. Our talented instructors can help you feel at home in any
class, big or small.

Do you wake
up relaxed and happy every day or do you wake up grumpy and tired? Perhaps the
latter. A study suggests, around 40% of
the US population do not get the recommended amount of sleep, but much less
than that! The causes of this issue vary but ultimately the main result is we
need more sleep, and the question is how?
The benefits
of yoga are known worldwide- reduced stress, improved breathing, better
physical strength and flexibility, and improved mental focus. But did you know
yoga can also improve your sleep? While yoga helps reduce stress, it
simultaneously helps you to get better sleep.
How Does Yoga Help You Sleep?
Yoga
increases sleep quality by making you feel more mindful. When someone works
towards being mindful, their brain releases a chemical called melatonin, which
is known to help with sleep.
Yoga also
has breathing techniques that teach the breathwork of deep, resting breaths. In
turn, these deep breaths help people fall asleep faster and experience better
sleep quality.
Who Sleeps Better With Yoga?
Yoga has the
potential to help many subpopulations of people sleep better, including the
elderly, children, and even menopausal women with anxiety.
Adult women
usually have more difficulty sleeping than men. Yoga helps many subpopulations
of adult women- like pregnant women who practice yoga get reduced anxiety and
depression leading to better sleep.
Similarly,
women in menopause have received similar results from yoga. Yoga also helps
reduce stress in children with ASD which improves their mental health and
sleep. Some research also shows elderly people who do yoga regularly have
improved quality of sleep and life.
What Types Of Yoga Help do You Sleep?
During the
daytime, any type of yoga works for your health as long as you’re comfortable
doing it. High-activity forms of yoga, such as vinyasa or hot yoga, are a good
type of moderate to high exercise but must be done several hours before sleep.
Since high-activity yoga forms elevate the heart rate, it’s best to avoid these
practices right before bedtime.
ü If you want to practice yoga before
bedtime, here are some options-
ü Hatha yoga – gentle body postures and
breathing techniques that focus on lengthening inhalation, holding the breath,
and exhalation.
ü Nidra yoga – lie down and focus on
breathing or perception of certain body parts.
ü Standing forward bend (uttanasana) –
From a standing position, bend your torso slowly forward in front of your legs.
ü Reclined butterfly (supta baddha
konasana)- Lie on your back. Press the soles of your feet together and let your
knees fall to the side.
ü Legs up the wall (viparita karani) –
Lie on your back with your legs against a wall so that your body makes an “L.â€
Relax your arms at your sides.
ü Corpse pose (savasana) – Lie on the
floor with your arms at your sides, palms up, and your legs straight.
Conclusion
Yoga can do
amazing things for your sleep and health. Don’t let another night of tossing
and turning keep you from getting quality sleep. Let the certified trainers at
PIES Fitness Yoga teach you how to develop a consistent yoga practice that puts
an end to all your sleepless nights.
PIES Fitness Yoga takes the time to
provide you with individual attention and a customized class so that you can
get results based on your specific goals. Don’t let a lack of sleep get in the
way of you living the healthy life you deserve!

Yoga therapy provides physical fitness, relaxation, and focus. It has both a meditative quality and can also serve as a way to stay in shape. The benefit of yoga depends on what you’re looking to gain from your practice. In addition to the physical benefits of yoga, it has some extraordinary rewards for people’s mental health. Yoga has been known to help manage the anxious thoughts of people with anxiety and depression. Like this, Yoga can also help boost resilience.
Resilience
Resilience is mainly a human being’s ability to recover quickly from difficulties or life challenges. In daily life, people may live through unimaginable trauma and come out from there alive. Granted they’re not unscathed because trauma definitely impacts everyone. However, resilience is a quality that everyone possesses which helps a person to recover from hard times.
Yoga And Resilience
Yoga can help to bounce back from severe traumatic events in everyone’s daily lives, which is the epitome of resilience. Yoga has the power to result in powerful changes in one’s life. In a recent study at The University of Cincinnati, the researcher showed that after a decade of practicing yoga and learning about healthy lifestyle management, people’s mental health improved. Practicing yoga encourages a person to focus on what he/she can do, rather than on the things he/she can’t do or are struggling with. They learn to increase confidence in themselves to focus better and gain strength in their minds and bodies. By yoga therapy, a person can perform poses that they might not have thought their bodies could do. Yoga is really a powerful means of healing mentally and physically.
How yoga and meditation improve your resilience
Yoga, meditation, and other mind-body activities are known for their healing effect. They help to switch off the stress and relax after a stressful day at work. Yoga and meditation allow us to step back and take a moment to appreciate coming into the present moment. With these, you can begin to build resilience to stressful situations and anxious feelings. All it requires to build resilience is a little commitment to daily practice.
Coming into the present with meditation
Our greatest strength against anxiety is deep breathing. Daily meditation and deep breathing practice help anyone resolve the reactionary feelings of anxiety. It will guide you into a calmer, slower space, space where qualities like gratitude and thankfulness can begin to thrive.
Building resilience by positive habit building
It can be easy to miss a day’s yoga or meditation practice for ‘busyness’ and ‘work commitments’. But these excuses aren’t good enough to build resilience. Building resilience to stress and anxiety requires daily commitments. It requires you to show up to your mat and once you step on, switch off the outside world for a period of time.
The power of positive habit-forming is a beautiful thing as it will help you fight against your negative mental thoughts and feelings. To begin building positive habits, you can consider committing to two daily rituals:
Ten deep breaths
Positive affirmations
Incorporate stress-relieving yoga poses into our daily practice
To help reduce the physical and mental effects of stress and anxiety and designing your daily yoga practice around stress-relieving yoga poses, including:
Child’s pose
Corpse pose
Spine twist
Standing forward bend
Leg-up-the-wall pose
Puppy pose
Dolphin pose
Yoga And Mental Health
Yoga is a great addition to other common mental health treatments such as therapy. Though it shouldn’t be used as a substitute for therapy or counseling but can be provided as something to supplement your mental health treatment. If anyone is coping with trauma, depression, or anxiety it definitely worth speaking to a counselor. There might be several companies that offer online counseling. Counseling in conjunction with yoga can be part of a solid mental health wellness plan. By integrating therapy and yoga together, you’ll find that your resilience is increased and you’re able to achieve a higher level of wellness.
End Words:
To deal with anxiety and stress, it is most important to seek the help of a professional therapist. Stronger resilience will give you the strength to stand against anxiety, stress, and trauma. With meditation and yoga, you can begin to build resilience to stressful situations and anxious feelings. All it requires is a little commitment to daily practice and patience.
If you want to boost your resilience, you can check out PIES Fitness and Yoga Studio. We have several types of Yoga Therapy for seniors and juniors by which everyone will be able to experience the benefits of yoga.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means a wheel or disk. In yoga, meditation, and Ayurveda, chakras can simply be defined as the concentrated energy centers of the body. They have the earnest responsibility of taking in, incorporating, and emanating energy to keep us functioning at optimal levels. Chakras provide energy that cannot be seen by the human eye but can be seen, felt, and sensed with intuition.
There are seven major chakras which are the main energy centers of the body. These chakras are in a specific location along your spine.
Let’s read about the 7 types of chakras:
Root Chakra
The root chakra, or Muladhara, represents our foundation. It is located at the base of our spine. Root chakra provides us with a base or foundation for life, and it helps us feel grounded. Additionally, it helps us to be able to withstand challenges. Our root chakra is responsible for the sense of security and stability.
Sacral Chakra
The Swadhisthana, or sacral chakra, is located just below the belly button. This chakra is related to sensuality and responsible for sexual and creative energy. The sacral chakra is also linked to how you relate to your emotions as well as the emotions of others.
Solar Plexus Chakra
The third chakra, the solar plexus chakra, speaks to the ability to be confident and in control of life. It is located in the stomach area. The solar plexus chakra is responsible for confidence and self-esteem, as well as helping you feel in control of your life.
Heart Chakra
The fourth chakra which is the heart chakra, or Anahata, is associated with air. It is located near the heart, in the center of your chest. Simply put, the heart chakra is all about our ability to love and show compassion.
Throat Chakra
Vishuddha or the throat chakra is located in the throat. It is the 5th chakra that has to do with our ability to communicate verbally.
Third Eye Chakra
The third eye chakra, or Ajna, is the 6th type of chakra that has to do with insight, intuition, awareness, and guidance. It is located between the eyes. This chakra is responsible for a strong gut instinct because the third eye is responsible for intuition. Besides, it’s also linked to imagination.
Crown Chakra
The last and final type of chakra is the crown chakra or Sahasrara which is located at the top of the head. It represents the spiritual connection to oneself, others, and the universe. It also plays a role in your life’s purpose and represents union, bliss, the knowledge of being at one with all.
Conclusion
As we know what a chakra is and the types of chakras, you can meditate on the chakras for increased health of your energetic system. Anytime a chakra becomes blocked, it can imbalance you physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Yoga is simply a physical and mental fitness system practiced for thousands of decades. It was first originated in India but now increasingly throughout the globe. In the modern world, Yogis are known as calm, fit, bendy, enlightened figures with desirable physical and mental stability.
This can be a far journey away from the distractions, stresses, and limitations of your everyday life. The pictures we see online do not always seem to be achievable. If you want to become a Yogi, know that your Yoga path isn’t about following a strict set of rules or changing around your whole life to become a Yogi.
Here are some concepts to give you a better understanding of yoga and the Yogi:What Defines A Yogi?
Yogi is a practitioner of yoga. A yogi can be either married or unmarried, and may or may not have formal religious ties.
According to the Paramhansa Yogananda, a yogi involves a structured step-by-step procedure by which the body and mind are disciplined and the soul enlightened. He/she has to practice a thoroughly tested series of exercises that were first mapped out by the early sages.
Yoga is all about posture, mindfulness, focus, and rest. In Classical Sanskrit, the word Yogi is derived from the word ‘yogin’ that refers to a learner of yoga. The word Yogi is generally used to indicate a male, and yogini is the word used for female yoga learners. These two words are still used with those meanings today.
But nowadays, the term yogi is also used commonly to refer to both male and female learners of yoga and related meditative practices belonging to any spiritual method or religion. The term yogini is also referred to as divine goddesses and liberal mothers as aspects of the mother goddess, Devi. What Is The Difference Between Yoga And Yogi?
Yoga is a set of physical, mental, and spiritual exercises or disciplines that heal lives, reduce pain and stress. It’s originated in ancient India. The ancient practitioners of Yoga sought to harmonize the body, mind, and soul to achieve health, durability, and most importantly, the enlightenment of the soul. That’s why the Sanskrit term yoga means to join with or union- the union or join with the divine, which is attained through the controlled practice of particular exercises and meditation.
Yoga is mainly a lifestyle which deals with all the aspects of a living being. The physical poses or asanas that are perceived as yoga are just one aspect of the reflective science of life.
There are Eight Limbs of Yoga, expressed by C.E. Patanjali in the Yoga Sutra that explains the eight aspects of a yogic way of life. These aspects guide the yogi on a path of self-development to complement the body, spirit, and mind and achievement enlightenment.
A yogi is the learner of yoga. According to the Vedic Sanskrit, yoga means to join, to add, or to unite. But, in recent days, particularly in the West, yoga refers to objective exercises only. The term yogi broadly refers to practitioners or a sannyasi of meditation. How Does One Become A Yogi?
If you’ve done a few downward-facing exercises in your lifetime, does that make you a yogi? Probably not.
To understand the standard definition of a yogi, most importantly, we need to learn the difference between the words “practice†and “commitmentâ€. If you find yourself interested in the practice of yoga and wish to become a yogi, you should follow these basic steps:1. Practice yoga often. First of all, you have to integrate the practice of yoga into your life and have to practice yoga and meditation at least three times per week.
2. Find a good teacher. To give your practice consistency and depth, you should start working with a knowledgeable and qualified yoga teacher. Establishing a relationship with your experienced yoga instructor will also give you a resource for inspiration and guidance.
3. Commit to deepening your practice. The main benefits of yoga are gained through the practice and understanding of the philosophy of yoga. Dedicate yourself to explore the regular practices of yoga and to understand yogic philosophy. You can watch videos, read books, and most importantly, take workshops.
4. Embrace the Yamas and Niyamas. Take a vow to absorb the yogic values and ethics as much as possible in your daily life to enlighten your soul. You don’t have to practice all at once. Just work consistently to explore and practice each one at a time.
5. Make positive lifestyle choices. Check your lifestyle choices and try to align them towards a lifestyle of peace, contentment, devotion, and balance.
End Words:

We believe that everyone should be able to experience the benefits of yoga by which they can broaden their skills and knowledge about the correct poses that are needed to strengthen the body and soul. Yoga is one of the finest practices to keep your physical health in check while also calming your mind and helping you to get stronger. It is intended to be a meditative, calm & relaxing form of exercise. Yet, dressing for yoga can be intimidating for beginners.
One of the most commonly asked questions we receive from people is “Okay, I’m ready to go to a yoga class. But what to wear?!”
Here are some beginner tips for you to to determine the best outfit for the yoga class:
A Tank Top
Most of the basic yoga poses involve lots of arm movement. You won’t have to worry about constantly pushing them out of your way if you don’t have any sleeves. You can completely focus on your poses. Chose one that doesn’t have a plunging neckline and fits your body well because a loose shirt or a low neckline will leave you exposed when you bend or twist into a new position.
A Sports Bra To A Bikram Class
It gets extremely warm during Bikram or Hot yoga so its best for women to wear a sports bra in order to stay cool. Sports bras are typically categorized by impact level. In that case, a low-impact bra is fine.
For men, going shirtless to Bikram could be a better option.
Try A T-shirt
Always pick a t-shirt that is comfortable and also fits well. You can practice stretching, reaching, and bending your arms to make sure the shirt is not too tight. In inversion poses, the shirt might slide up your torso, so either prepare to tuck it in, or wear a camisole underneath.
Try With Layers
For a more mellow class like Iyengar or Vinyasa, you can wear a lightweight sweatshirt over a tank top so you’ll be warm at the beginning and end of class when there is less movement.
Also, you can always remove layers if you get too hot.
Wear Yoga Pants
Yoga pants are easy to find at most of the stores that sell workout clothes. These pants have many different colors so you can pick whatever suits your personality.
You can try some lunges or stretches in the dressing room to make sure you have a full range of motion. You can wear them for other fitness activities as well, like running or biking.
Full-length yoga pants are better for classes that won’t involve a lot of rapid movement. Because the excess fabric could trip you up. For more active classes where it will get hotter much quicker, consider getting a 3/4-length pair of yoga pants.
Try Bicycle Shorts
Less is always more at a Bikram class. You might not want your entire legs covered there. Bicycle shorts are great for this yoga as they stay put as you move. You’ll want to consider whether they are transparent when stretched, but you want to be secure that you will be well-concealed throughout the class.
Choose A Pair Of Leggings
If you haven’t tried yoga before and aren’t sure about investing in a new wardrobe before you know whether you’ll go to classes regularly, a pair of leggings is fine. You might already have leggings in your closet. Just make sure you choose an opaque pair!

One of the concerns many beginner yoga practitioners have is what to wear in during a yoga session. To make it simple, yoga is a welcoming place for everyone to relax. The idea is stress-relief and not put extra stress on what to wear.
Still, if you are feeling self-conscious or just don’t know what to wear, you are not alone! You can wear whatever you feel comfortable to stretch your body. But still, here are 7 tips and recommendations for what to wear in yoga.
Tops
The most important thing is to feel comfortable both physically and emotionally. So for tops go t-shirt, tank top or gym shorts!
Bottoms
Yoga pants are a bit tricky. Let’s look at different types of shorts you can wear at a yoga session:
Bike shorts are a good option.
In the case of long pants – it should be snug and stretchy.
Compression tights have the advantage of giving you more body awareness.
Which bottoms to avoid wearing for yoga:
Avoid loose shorts because they will make you tug down your pants every five minutes. Track pants are ideal if you feeling too cold.
Avoid, any type of bottom that has a bulky drawstring at the waist because the knot will be painful when you lie face-down.
Shoe or no-shoe
Go barefoot in yoga! Barefoot helps you develop your balance and give a better idea of how much your body is moving. Since you will bring a mat, your feet will give you a better grip.
However, if you want, you can wear socks. There are some companies that make socks specifically for yoga.
Accessories
You are welcome to wear accessories like smartwatches, fitness trackers if that doesn’t get in your way to distract others. Make sure these accessories are silent. Because even buzz or beep may disturb another person’s peace. And avoid jewelry, unless you need to.
Mobility
Yoga is a physical practice. So you need to allow yourself to move freely and easily while stretching and twisting. So wear tighter and fitting clothes so that while doing yoga your cloth doesn’t get in your way.
For example, baggy t-shirts sometimes work fine but while doing a downward dog it can end up in your face disturbing the momentum.
Consider the heat
Yoga studios typically have higher temperatures. You will sweat during classes, especially vigorous classes. You may consider breathable, fits well clothes that will wick the sweat away from your body.
These clothes can be found in sports goods stores or online shops. In this case t-shirts, tank tops, sports bras, yoga pants, capris, tights, and shorts are all ideal fitting.
However, if you want to wear bottoms that are knee-length or longer than avoid slippage in poses where your leg is supporting your arm. Cotton clothes are ok since they absorb moisture but they might weigh you down. You can also wear a headband to prevent sweat from dripping into your eyes.
Cloth shopping
Let’s clear this misconception, there is no such thing as specific yoga clothes. You don’t need to buy any clothes if already have something at first. So before buying anything check your closet and then go shopping only if you need it.
Endnote:
Yoga is all about relaxing and being comfortable. Your attire should reflect your comfort. So don’t worry about how people will think about how you look. If you are comfortable than you doing it right! If you are thinking of practicing yoga in a comfortable environment, be sure to check out PIES Fitness Yoga.
